Are You a Visitor?
If you are a visitor on campus, please come to the front office to sign in. Be prepared to provide
us with your driver's license for identification purposes. Your driver's license will be scanned by
the computer. Then when leaving, remember to come back by the office and check out. This
helps provide a safe school environment for the students and staff.

VOLUNTEERS
As we begin the "06-07" school year we find that many parents and family members would like to
have a hands on share in their child's education. Time is a precious commodity and something
most of us have little of. Whether you have time every week or once a in a while whatever you are
able to do will prove to be a fond memory for you and your child to look back on. Therefore, we
are preparing Volunteer applications to send home soon. If you wish to volunteer before then
applications are available in the front office. Remember that a new application must be filled out
each school year. Applications must be on file in order for you to take part in any or all classroom
activities and field trips. One of the great things about Canopy Oaks is our Volunteers!! If you have
any questions please feel free to contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Rachel Carns 519-3363

Religious Holidays
Remember that if you are planning to be out of school due to a religious holiday, please submit a
religious holiday exemption request form. The form must be completed for the absence to be
excused. You may print the form from the Leon County Schools website or pick one up from the
front office. Forms must be submitted before the holiday occurs

ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY
Leon County Schools has a NO TOLERANCE policy regarding weapons. Anything that can be used
as a weapon, or looks like a weapon, is considered a weapon. This includes guns, knives, sling
shots, nail files, rocks, etc. Canopy Oaks has never had a problem with weapons on school
grounds. However, there have been occasions when students have inadvertently brought look-
alike toy weapons, pocket knives, or other similar items to school. In the past, the school has
worked with parents to make sure such events are never repeated. District staff have informed
principals that all students who bring a "weapon" to school, even if it is never used in a
threatening way, must be expelled regardless of the age of the student! Please impress upon your
child(ren) the importance of NEVER having any sort of gun, knife, toy weapon, or any other such
item at school. Please talk with your child(ren) about this very important rule and policy and
impress upon them that they cannot make a 'mistake' with this, as the consequences are very
serious. Also, please encourage them to tell an adult if they see or hear that anyone at school has
a weapon.

REFUGE HOUSE
Parents and Teachers...Please donate your gently used items to the Refuge House Thrift Store and
benefit our needy Leon County Schools students. Your School Social Workers are often called upon
to help families provide appropriate school attire for their children. We have recently developed a
mutually beneficial agreement with the Refuge House; by urging our parents and teachers to
donate items to the thrift store, we may refer our low-income families to shop at the store free of
charge. The thrift store is located at 1107 Apalachee Parkway in the Gulf Winds Shopping Center.
When donating, just mention that you are a supporter of Error! Contact not defined.. Please call
(487-8859) the store the days when donations are accepted.
