Principal’s Message
Just one more week of school before we are out for the holiday break! Hasn’t this year gone by so
quickly? The students are working hard to finish the second semester strong. I can tell that many
students are working toward honor roll goals. We have terrific Cardinals at COE!!!

At this time of year, we pause to reflect on the many blessings we enjoy each day. We are grateful
for such a wonderful group of students who make our jobs a joy. We are thankful for the faculty
and staff at COE who give more than 100% each day and for parents who are involved in their
child’s education. Thank you so much!!!

I want to take this time to wish everyone a happy holiday and hope you have the opportunity to
spend quality, relaxing time with family and friends! We love having your children at Canopy Oaks
and look forward to their return on January 4.

Cookie Dough Pick Up
The cookie dough will be arriving on December 14th. Please mark your calendars, as the dough
MUST be picked up on that date. We do not have the freezer space to store the dough. You may
want to bring a cooler with you to transport the dough. The dough will be available for pick up
from 2:10 pm until 6:00 pm. Canopy Oaks spirit items will also be available for purchase at this
time.

REMINDERS
Parking Lot
This is a reminder that when dropping off and picking up children in the parking lot, you should
park in a parking space. When you pull up and stop in the roadway, it blocks cars (pulling in and
backing out), backs up traffic, is not safe for children or adults walking through to the sidewalks
and could cause an accident.

Point View Drive Crosswalk
When children walk across Point View Drive they need to cross where the crossing guard is
located. The crossing guard can help them cross and ensure their safety.
Drive Thru in Front of School
Remember when dropping off or picking up a student in the drive thru, please do not park and
leave your vehicle. This causes a traffic backup and is not safe for other drivers or pedestrians. If
you need to talk to a teacher or get out of your vehicle for any reason, you should park in the
parking lot.

Parking for Special Events
We are so lucky to have so many of our parents and families involved with special events (Awards,
Luncheons, Art Day, etc.) at Canopy Oaks. However, we ask everyone to remember to park in the
parking lot. If there are no spaces available and you park in the driveway, please do not park in
the first curve of the entrance. This causes traffic problems and would be a problem if an
emergency vehicle needed to get in.
Please follow these simple guidelines so we can set a good example for our students.

Student Government
At this time we would like to congratulate our officers for the 2004-2005 Student Government.
They are as follows:
President – Chris Gentry
Vice President – Ariel Gandy
Secretary – Jaime Estes
Treasurer – Cassidy Pope
We had many students run and put a lot of hard in to their campaigning. All the participants
deserve a pat on the back for a job well done!

Yearbooks! Yearbooks! Yearbooks!
There is still time to put your buddy pictures and lovelines in the yearbook. Cost is $4.00 per
buddy picture and $2.00 per loveline. We also are accepting ads for the yearbook. The price list is
located in the front office for the ads. Yearbook orders are still being taken at $15.00 each. 5th
Graders get your baby picture in before the end of the year. One last thing, we have made a
decision on the yearbook cover and we will be announcing the winner before school lets out for
winter
break. If there are any questions regarding the yearbook, please contact Leigh Ann Clark at 514
-3762.

Nutrition Tip of the Week
When a fruit is not a fruit: Did you know that food like cereal bars, toaster pastries and fruit
snacks do not count as a serving of fruit? They may have fruit in the name or taste similar but they
lack the fiber, vitamins and minerals of the real thing. Try having fresh, frozen or canned fruit as a
more nutritious alternative.
