Principal's Message
It was wonderful to see so many of you at the awards assembly. Thank you for taking time to
share this special event with your child. Our cardinals excel in so many ways!

Also, thank you to parents who have faithfully sent letters ahead of time for planned absences.
For absences due to illness, please send a written note with your child when he/she returns to
school. If your child is arriving late to school, please go in the front office to sign him/her in.
Appointments for a doctor or dentist will require a note from that office for a late sign in/early
sign out to be marked excused.

Reminder - December 14th - 16th are early release days for students. Students will be dismissed
at 11:40 am.

The Leon County Senior Outreach will have a workshop for senior citizens raising grandchildren,
nieces, and/or nephews. This workshop will be on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at the Fort Braden
Community Center from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Reservations are required.

ILL CHILDREN
If your child becomes ill or is seriously injured at school, we will contact you immediately. Please
keep two current phone numbers on file in the office. Let the office know immediately if these
numbers should change. We do not call parents when children get minor scrapes and bumps
while at school. Please remember, we cannot keep ill children at school. It is the responsibility of
the parents to make sure their children have recovered from contagious diseases before returning
to school.

Morning Drop Off
We are still having parents drop off their child(ren) before an adult gets out front. Supervision
begins at 7:05 am. We have noticed that children are being left at the school alone and
unsupervised because they are dropped off prior to 7:05 am. For the safety of the children, we
remind parents that students may not be dropped off before 7:05 am. Do not leave until an adult
is on duty in front of the school. (Note: Adults walk out front to supervise when the school clock
says 7:05 am - which is the clock that the bell schedule is on. Please know our clock may be
faster or slower than your clock, however it is the time we go by.) Thank you for your
cooperation.

Order your yearbook now!!!
Yearbooks are available for $12.00 through Nov. 18th, after Nov. 18th the cost will be $15.00.
You can also purchase Lovelines for your child for $2.00 each or put a buddy picture in the
yearbook for $4.00 each. 5th graders can put their baby picture in the yearbook at no additional
charge. If you have any questions, please contact Leigh Ann Clark at 514-3762 or 224-9403.

Yearbook Art Contest
We are having another yearbook art contest for the cover of the yearbook. Top winners will see
their artwork on the cover of the 2005/2006 COE Yearbook!! All students, Pre-K through 5th
grade, are eligible to participate. Draw, paint or color a scene or object related to the safari/jungle
theme. You can use markers, crayons, paints or colored pencils - the bolder the color the better!!
The art must be on a clean sheet of 8.5 X 11 white paper, please do not fold the paper. Write your
name, grade & teacher's name on the back. All artwork must be received by Nov. 18th!!!

Leaving Messages for Teachers
All teachers have voice mail. When you need to get in touch with a teacher, please call us at
488-3301 and ask for the teacher's voice mail. You can use this for reporting absences,
requesting conferences, requesting homework assignments, etc. If you need to speak with a
teacher, please call to schedule a conference. Our teachers are responsible for supervising
children and will not be able to give you or the students the full attention that you need if you call
or just drop by. Please do not call or come to the school and expect to talk to a teacher during
class time.

Don't forget to send in your box tops! Canopy Oaks receives 10 cents for each box top turned in.
There are a variety of products that box tops are on, so check out the products you buy. Just clip
them out and send them in with your child.

School Breakfast
The school cafeteria serves breakfast from 7:20 am - 7:40 am each morning. If your child is
eating breakfast in the school cafeteria, please make sure they arrive to school in a timely manner.
Some students are arriving late, which makes them have a rushed breakfast and then late for
class.

Lost and Found
Please remember to check in the front office if your child has lost something. Bigger items, such
as coats, backpacks, and lunchboxes, are put in the lost and found closet. Smaller items, such as
glasses, jewelry, and wallets, are kept at Mrs. Hunter's and Mrs. Healy's desks.

Nutrition Tip of the Week
Thanksgiving can be healthy: Did you know that turkey is one of the most nutritious meats you
can eat? It has more protein and calcium, and less fat, calories, and sodium than other meats.
The white meat (without the skin) is the healthiest way to enjoy turkey. If you like the other parts,
just be sure to be careful how much you have.

Physical Activity of the Week
Find a convenient time and place to do activities.
Try to make it a habit, but be flexible. If you miss an exercise opportunity, work activity into your
day another way.
