Principal’s Message
The School Advisory Council met on Monday, September 29th to review your input and
suggestions for the 2003-2004 School Improvement Plan. We appreciate your taking time to
review this document at the Public Hearing. The School Improvement Plan was submitted to
the Leon County School Board for approval on October 1st.

There continue to be problems with people crossing the double yellow line on Point View
Drive to turn into the entrance. Point View Drive is not a one way street. (Canopy Oaks
would like to thank the Leon County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in helping with
this situation.) The Sheriff’s Department has been running radar and watching for traffic
violations pertaining to the double yellow line, speeding in a school zone, seat beat
violations, etc. If you cross over the double yellow line, even if you are just second in line, you
WILL receive a ticket. (Tickets for crossing the double yellow line start at $93.00 and can take
up about 30 minutes of your time.) PLEASE be patient and wait your turn. The back up of
traffic lasts only 10 to 12 minutes. It will save you time and money. The Sheriff’s
Department will be out front on random days in the morning and/or afternoon.

FTE Week October 13 – 16, 2003
Monday, October 13th, begins our FTE week. This is the week we need to have all of our
students in school and on the bus, if they ride one. The schools and busses are funded by
attendance. There are two weeks out of the year (one week in October and one week in
February) that the state selects to monitor attendance and see how many children are served
at Canopy Oaks.
