Parents:

Please plan to attend our PTO/SAC meetings tomorrow night, September 19, in
Cobb’s media center beginning at 6:00 p.m. This will be a very important
meeting to discuss our 2006-2007 School Improvement Plan.

For more information on our school, please refer to the School Public
Accountability Report (SPAR) for Cobb Middle School. It highlights key
elements for Cobb Middle School for the 2005-2006 school year. This report
includes important information about your child’s school, including
enrollment; test scores; free and reduced lunch rates; student and staff
attendance; and student discipline incident statistics. It also includes
information on teachers with advanced degrees; teachers out-of-field;
school-community learning environment results; and school improvement plan
results. You can view the report at:

On September 20th your child will take the first of four writing
assessments called Writes Upon Request (WUR). In a few weeks your child
will bring home a letter stating the score he/she received on the WUR
essay. The letter also explains how the writing is scored; papers can range
from “unscorable” to “6.” Our goal is for all of our students to score at
least a “4.” Remember the promotion requirement for writing requires a
sixth-grader to have a score of 3.5 or higher on one of the four WUR
papers. Seventh and eighth graders are required to score 3.5 or higher on
one persuasive and one expository essay.
