Greetings Parents & Students,
School is in full swing with the end of the first nine weeks drawing
near, October 17. The first report card will go home with students on
Friday, October 25.
Our first nine weeks sports programs are coming to an end, but girls’
basketball and boys’ soccer try-outs begin this week. Congratulations
to Cobb’s Cross Country Team. The girls placed 2nd in the City
Championship, missing 1st placed by only 7 points. Our top five girls
were: Lisa Sawicki, Charlotte Murrell, Claire Stodghill, Meagan
Chestnut, and Ruby Perez. The boys tied for 3rd place. Our top five
boys were: Levon Hoomes, Graham Hawkes, Shane Clemons, Luke
Clary, and Zack Womack. Congratulations to all of our first nine
weeks athletic teams!
Cobb students just finished voting on the 2002-2003 officers for SGA.
Congratulations to our new Student Government officers:
Meagan Chestnut – President
Shane Clemons – Vice President
Darian Hands – Secretary
Darius Hands – Treasurer
Peer Counsel representatives have also been chosen. We are sure
all of our students will get involved with SGA to help make the best
decisions for our school.
As you are aware, Cobb does not have supervision after 2:20 in the
afternoons. Parents, for your child’s safety, we are now assigning a
detention to those students who are not in a supervised activity after
school, but are hanging around campus.
On a more positive note, Cobb’s 2002-2003 School Improvement Plan
(SIP) was approved on October 2 by our School Advisory Council
(SAC). And, the 2001-02 end of the year report for School
Improvement was completed with Cobb achieving 80% of our goals
as required.
Thanks for your continued support and dedication to Cobb.

PTO NEWS

            Katherine Beich/Nestle Fundraiser:
Our sale ended Monday, October 14. Items ordered are scheduled to
come in on Wednesday, November 6. We will deliver the items to
students in their last period of the day. If there is a problem with your
order simply fill out the form included with your package and return it to
the school for corrections. The PTO would like to thank everyone who
participated in our fundraiser. All sales have not been tallied yet, but
so far we've earned somewhere near $7,000! This money is slated to
buy technology equipment for the school. Thanks again for your
support and efforts!

                   Cobb 8th Grade Trip
Universal Studios Orlando – Islands of Adventure

Information packets were sent home with students the week of
October 7th. If you haven’t seen it yet, check those backpacks. The
trip is limited to 150 students on a first paid basis. October 25th is the
deadline for the return of signed permission slips and payment to
hold your child’s place for this trip. Call Julie Doherty, 385-0506, if you
have any questions. We’re looking forward to a great time in Orlando
on May 16, 2003.

                 BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION!

We've all seen them and at one time or another cut them out. That's
right. We are collecting "Box Tops for Education" to help raise funds for
our great school! Please remove the "Box Tops for Education" coupon
that you will find on most General Mills food products, collect them in a
baggie and send them in to your homeroom teacher or the front office.
Make sure you put your homeroom teacher's name on the baggie.
The room who collects the most will receive a SURPRISE! Thanks in
advance for your participation.
