Minutes – October 23, 2007



Call to Order at 12:20 pm

Welcome and Introductions

Attendance: Principal McDaris, Laura Rogers, Harriet Williams, Dave
Ferrell, Ida Pippin, Charlise Darby, Marisol Roberts, Dana Causey, Michelle
Forehand, Kim Jones, and Beverlyn Elliott

Treasurer’s Report:
Beverlyn Elliott provided the 2007-2008 budget for review and approval.
After a brief explanation the budget was approved.

President’s Report:
• Laura Rogers thanked all in attendance for their participation with
Cobb.
•  Volunteer forms are to be completed and hours logged when
volunteers provide time and service for Cobb.
• Albertsons Partner Cards were given to those that shop there.
Additional cards are available to all parents and staff to earn money for
Cobb.
• Kim Jones has volunteered to serve as Secretary on the PTO Board.
•  Volunteer opportunities and leadership roles are available for:
o Spirit Sales – T Shirts
o Teacher Appreciation
o 6th Grade Recognition
o 7th Grade Recognition
o 8th Grade Recognition
o Cookie Dough Sales
o Printer Cartridges


Committee Reports:
• Believe Fundraiser – Jane Maida, chair, has been collecting forms
until this week. The extension of the fundraiser will delay delivery.
• Partners in Excellence – Susan Griggs, Guidance Teacher, is
coordinating businesses to mentor, donate items, provide assistance to
programs, etc. Cobb will also reciprocate the partnership.
• General Mills Box Tops – JJ Meadows, chair, has sent a letter home
promoting the program to send in box tops to their homeroom teachers and
PTO office. Suggestions were made to provide information via List-Serve and
show all the products that are included in the program.
• 8th Grade Dance - Harriet Williams, chair, inquired about the
deposit for this year’s dance and Beverlyn will look into the records.
• Grade Recognition – After grades are sent home, students that have
a certain level of academics and citizenship will be invited to the 6-8th
Grade recognition celebration. Volunteer lists were passed around for sign-
up.

Principal’s Report:
• Mr. McDaris discussed the freeze on the Afternoon Homework Center
staffing.
• 28% of Cobb’s personnel is new.
• Audio Enhancement in our classrooms has been completed.
• Cobb is participating in a 4 year research project with FCRC and
FSU on teacher and staff development in writing programs.
• Cobb brought in Dr. Mackie to address students in Leon County on
inspiring hope and the need to stay in school for young, black male
students.

The next PTO Meeting will be held on November 20, 2007 at 12:00 pm in the
Administration Meeting Room.
