Greetings Parents and Students,

It is hard to believe we are approaching the fourth week of school. I am
very proud of the progress our students have made so far this year and look
forward to continued success for the rest of the year. Several avenues of
communication with parents are in place so that we can work together in
continuing your child’s success. I will be communicating with you
frequently through letters and Listserv.

Please make sure to subscribe to Cobb’s listserv, which you can access on
Cobb’s webpage(http://www.cobb.leon.k12.fl.us.) You will receive timely
information about activities and other pertinent events happening at Cobb.
A pamphlet that explains the after school activities available at Cobb was
sent home with students today.

Along with the many sports programs available, we are fortunate to offer an
after school academic tutorial program. The Academic Tutorial Program
(ACT) is a comprehensive instructional program designed to help students
improve their skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and science.
Computer-based instructional programs along with direct instruction
provided by certified teachers will be available Monday through Thursday.
Students will also be provided with homework assistance. ACT will begin
September 6th.

Our teachers have been receiving training on using a computer program post
student grades “on-line.” Soon you will be receiving information from your
child’s teachers about accessing your child’s grades through the internet.
Finally, the intent of on-line grades is to help both parents and students
monitor student progress. Our goal is to have all of our teachers on-line
by the end of the second nine-week grading period.

It has been difficult to watch, listen, and read about the devastation
Hurricane Katrina has caused to our neighboring states. In response to
many requests, the Leon County School Board developed a district wide
campaign to aid in the Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Drive. With all
of us working together, we will be able to make a significant financial
contribution that will have a greater impact than each of us working
independently. We will be collecting any amount of money that a family or
student would like to contribute. Please have your child bring
contributions to his/her homeroom teacher beginning Tuesday, September 6,
and we will take contributions until September 23rd. At that time we will
forward our contributions to the Leon County School district office, who
will then write a combined check to our local Red Cross designated, for
this relief only. Together we can make a difference.

Please make sure you mark your calendars for our Open House on September
8th from 6:55pm until 8:10pm. This is a time you can meet your child’s
teachers and hear valuable information about each of your child’s classes.
The first bell will ring at 6:55pm for you to report to your child’s first
period. From 5:30pm until 6:30 pm, PTO will sell a hotdog supper and
spirit items. Our chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Drew, will have a
short performance in the gym at 6:30pm. If you have not subscribed to
Cobb’s Listserv, we will have computers available in the media center with
personnel to assist you.

Have a safe Labor Day weekend.

Sincerely,

Shannon Meeks
Principal
