PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
We had a wonderful turn out for Open House this week! Special thanks to
those of you who supported PTO by purchasing dinner and spirit items.
Did you get a progress alert this week? If so, please work with your child
to improve in their area of need. We want to be sure that you know in
plenty of time to improve before report cards come out at the end of the
grading period. On morning announcements this week, we've been learning
about the Constitution of the United States. Ask your child what they
learned.

NATIONAL HISPANIC MONTH
In honor of National Hispanic Month we have provided a list of the days of
the week and how to pronounce them. See if you can learn them all.
English Spanish Pronunciation
Monday Lunes Loo-nase
Tuesday Martes Mar-tase
Wednesday Miercoles Me-air-co-lase
Thursday Jueves Way-vayse
Friday Viernes Vee-air-nase
Saturday Sabado Sah-ba-do
Sunday Domingo Doh-meen-go

ART NEWS
Thank-you all for visiting the art room at open house, fifty "Pinwheels for
Peace" were created and will be placed at the car pickup area on Wednesday.
I was happy to meet all of you and wish I could have visited with you more.
I love working with all of our students and I am trying to create an
exciting learning atmosphere. This Wednesday (9/21) is the International
Day of Peace. At special area time each class will carry their pinwheels
out to the front of the school and place them at the top of the fence. If
you want to come, watch and help, you are very welcome. Our young Panthers
have worked very hard writing their thoughts about peace, and decorating
their pinwheels. Here is the special area schedule: 3rd ¬7:50-8:35, 5th-
8:40-9:25, KDG-9: 30-10:15,4th- 10:25-11:10, 1st-12: 40-1:25. The second
grade is going on a field trip on Wednesday so they will place their
pinwheels on Tuesday 9/20/05, at 11:50-12:35.

MCCASKILLS CORNER
Parents, Thank you for your assistance and participation in our Open House
on Tuesday evening. It was fantastic! Students in grades 1-5 started the
DIBELS testing this week (September 12-23). Our boys and girls are doing a
great job with following the rules in their classroom, cafeteria,
playground and in the halls of the school. “Praise a child for an
accomplishment, big or small.”

Nutrition Tip of the Week
Start the day with a healthy breakfast. The key to a healthy breakfast is
including plenty of nutrients that your body can use to jumpstart the day.
A breakfast with protein, carbohydrates and rich in fiber can keep you
energetic until lunch. A good example is peanut butter on whole wheat
toast, whole grain cereal with low-fat milk or yogurt, or mixed nuts and
dried fruit.

Girl Scout Meeting
The Girl Scouts will be holding a general meeting for all interested girls,
Pre-K through 5th grade, and their parents on Tuesday, September 20th,
6:00pm in the cafeteria. Regular meetings will begin weekly on Tuesdays
from 6:00-7:00pm. For more information, call Mary Beveridge at 942-2014.

HURRICANE DONATIONS
Thanks to everyone who has sent in items for the hurricane evacuees. Here
is a list of critically needed items: socks, underwear, shoes, flip-flops,
can openers, plastic utensils, dish soap, and any kind of food that can be
prepared by boiling in water. You can bring your donations to the Guidance
Hallway. We are collecting items until September 23rd.

Rent-a-Sign
Rent the sign in front of the school, by the Extended Day Portable, to say
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, OR GOOD JOB to that special someone. To
reserve your space, complete an order form in the front office. We rent
the sign for $15.00 starting on Saturday or Wednesday. If you would like
