PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
There are few things more important to teach children than the love of
reading. In today's society of high tech, fast paced living it would be
easy to take for granted the basic necessity and pure joy associated with
reading. As parents, grandparents or just good community citizens it is
vital for all of us to do all we can to encourage kids to read and to help
them create a lifetime love affair with books. What better way to take
time to grow and learn with your children than reading?
For this reason, Mayor John Marks is launching the Tallahassee: A City that
Reads program. With the assistance of the Leon County Schools and in
complement to the Governor's Just Read Florida program, each month the
Mayor will select and announce a selection of books for parents and
children to enjoy together. The monthly book list will air on WCOY Channel
13, the City of Tallahassee's Website www.talgov.com, WCLCS Channel 23 on
Kids Talk and on the Leon County School Board Website www.leon.k12.fl.us.
This program's mission is simple: to get kids and parents reading
together. Each step toward this goal makes Tallahassee a stronger and
healthier community and brings with it an improved quality of life for our
families.
