PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Today is our very last hat day of the school year. As you know, we have
done many fundraisers throughout the school year to raise money for the
Chaires Cares Relay for Life team. I would like to thank Debbie Karels for
being a fabulous and organized team leader this year. I would also like to
thank each of the students and staff who have participated in one or more
the events that helped our team raise over $2800 for the American Cancer
Society. Great teamwork!
Skate Night has been a healthy and exciting monthly fundraiser for the
Chaires PTO. Skate World has also been a super business partner with
Chaires! The class with the highest attendance at Skate Nights for second
semester was Mrs. Derrenberger's fifth grade class. They will receive a
Papa John's pizza party and skate passes for the whole class! Special
thanks to Coach Lang who came out and "let her hair down" . . . she drew a
record crowd

MRS. MCCASKILL’S CORNER
Congratulations on the FCAT Writing scores! We are so proud of all of our
students. We want them to continue to work hard until the very end of
school. There is still a lot that the teachers need to impart to the
students. We appreciate your continued support in helping your child with
his/her homework, getting to school on time and being a good citizen at
school. All students should be reminded that they should take their time
in the corridors and walk, not run. Parents are encouraged to visit and/or
call us if you have questions, suggestions, concerns, etc. “Our Children
are like mirrors – they reflect our attitudes in life.” Have a wonderful
and relaxing weekend.

recently launched a special grant funded program entitled A Home for the
Heart. This program provides FREE counseling services for Leon County

divorcing or have divorced. This program helps children learn healthy
coping skills, improve school and home functioning, and reach their full
potential in addition to equipping parents with healthy parenting skills
that allow them to nurture, promote, and sustain positive growth and
development of their child. Please call 841-7733 today for more
information.

Ten Ways to be a Great Parent
1. Be a good role model. Your child learns from the example you set.
2. Show respect for your child's feelings, thoughts, and suggestions.
3. Make your child feel loved with your words of praise, and your hugs and
kisses.
4. Keep your word. If you must break it, apologize and make it up to your
child.
5. Encourage your child's creativity. Ask questions to stimulate
curiosity and imagination.
6. Build your child's self-esteem by showing appreciation for all genuine
efforts.
7. Stay involved. Know what's going on in your child's life, both at
school and with friends.
8. Discipline your child fairly, firmly, and with love. Focus on the
behavior, not the child.
9. Establish family traditions and make time to do fun things together.
10. Think positively. By expecting the best, you empower yourself and your
child to solve problems and achieve goals.
