PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Special thanks to Mrs. Kilpatrick for producing and directing such a
marvelous Patriotic Program for the entire school to enjoy! The third
grade students worked hard, as did the recorder group! I was so proud of
the wonderful program that the students performed for their classmates and
parents! I would also like to thank Maj. Christen and the Rickards High
School JROTC Color Guard for starting out our programs in a ceremonious
manner by posting the colors for us. Also, Mr. Kelly Kilpatrick did a
terrific job teaching us the true meaning of the Veteran’s Day Holiday that
we celebrated on Tuesday.

MRS. OLK’S CORNER
Elementary School Progress Alerts will be sent home on Wednesday, November
19. Only students who are experiencing difficulty in any subject area or
behavior and work and study habits will receive a progress alert. Please
be on the lookout for these next week and be sure to contact your child’s
teacher immediately if you have questions or concerns about his/her
progress. The final day of the grading period is December19, so there is
still plenty of time to turn things around if your child is not progressing
as expected! Report cards will go home on January 14, 2004.

COACH’S P.E. NEWS
On Tuesday, November 18th, there will be a Jump Rope for Heart event on our
basketball court for participating 3rd-5th graders. We are hoping to start
at 8:00 a.m., lasting no longer than 45 minutes. This is strictly a
voluntary event, but if you so desire, please encourage your child to help
fight heart disease and assist in raising funds for the American Heart
Association. Our goal for this year is $1,000.

CHANGE OF CLOTHES
This message is the parents of our younger students. You will want to be
sure that your child has a seasonal change of clothes in their backpack in
the event of an emergency. We are very limited to the extra clothes that
we have available in the clinic. This will be very helpful to us!

DARE GRADUATION
The parents of fifth grade students are encouraged to join us for the DARE
Graduation ceremony on Wednesday, November 19th. The program will start at
9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. Each fifth grade class will have a reception
in the classroom for parents and students to join together in celebration
following the graduation ceremony. This is an exciting event that
foreshadows the fifth grade graduation, which is just six short months down
the road!

FORMER CHAIRES STUDENT HONORED
A former member of the Chaires Elementary School student body, Andrea
Gorman, has earned the honor of being only one of eight French horn players
selected to be a member of the Florida All State Honors Band. Andrea
graduated from Chaires Elementary School in 2001, taking home the trophy
for the Top Accelerated Reader, and is now a seventh grade student at
Deerlake Middle School. Way to go, Andrea! We’re proud of you.

Fall Photo Retakes
Was your child absent on the day that we took school pictures? Did you
want to have a photograph retaken that didn’t turn out just right? We have
picture retake forms available in the main office. Retakes will be made on
the morning of Friday, November 21st.

FOOD DRIVE
Our student council is still sponsoring our food drive for the remainder of
the month of November. Nov. 17-21 Little knick-knacks and personal items
(gum, puzzles, books, cards, lotion) Nov. 24-25 Write an encouraging
letter or make a card for a less fortunate person or someone who may live
in a shelter. Items are being collected by student council members on
Friday of each week. On Tuesday, Nov. 25th, the items will be presented to
a Homeless Shelter or Women’s Shelter.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS
We would like to thank all of the parents who worked with the Patriotic
Program and Recorder Performance to make it such a huge success. Thank you
for the help with costumes, staging, and management of students! Donna
Lewis, Evette Winston, Julie Ducasse, Stephanie Weldon, Linda Wotring,
Patricia Evans, Heather Godwin, and Lise Bailey. We couldn’t have done it
without your help!

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with an X indicate that we will be seeking
parent volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact
the front office by calling 878-8534.

Spirit Stick Award
Congratulations to the following “most spirited” classes for the week of
November 7th: Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Padgett, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Grigg, Mrs.
Derouin, and a tie in fifth grade between Mrs. Derrenberger and Mrs.
Toner’s classes! These classes had the most students in their grade level
