PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
I want to thank all of the parents and students who volunteered to make
Movie Night a success! I would also like to thank the following parents
who helped us provide a wonderful September Teacher/Staff Appreciation
Breakfast: Angel Thompson, Leigh Anne Chapman, Susan O'Bryan, Kim Gainer,
Kathy Punausuia, Mary Lindsey, Wanda Yelvington, Maria Kelly, Tracy
Janicki, and Mary Hull. Everyone enjoyed the recognition and the wonderful
food. It's so nice to have the support of our parents all throughout the
year!
I hope to see many of you at Family Safety Night next Tuesday!

Mrs. Olk’s Corner
Please remember that NO child is to be dropped off in the front parking
lot. It is VERY dangerous for students to be in the traffic in the parking
lot and even more dangerous to cross over with so many buses pulling in and
out.

FAMILY SAFETY NIGHT/PTO MEETING
Family Safety Night scheduled for October 15th at 5:30pm in the cafeteria.
The sheriff’s department will be doing a demonstration of the LURES
program, Deputy McQueen (our resource officer) will be making Ident-A-Kid
cards for those interested, the Fire Department will be giving some safety
tips for at home and for Halloween night, and our D.A.R.E. officer will
also be here. There will be a brief PTO Board meeting following the
presentations. PTO would like all the classroom representatives, as well
as, any other parents who are able stay, to attend the meeting.

SAFETY HANDBOOK
The guidance office recently received a copy of Personal Safety for
Children: A Guide for Parents. This handbook was developed for the White
House Conference on Missing Children and presents information to help
parents teach children how to stay safe at home, at school and in their
neighborhoods. The handbook is available for review in the guidance office
or you may view it electronically at www.NoChildLeftBehind.Gov or
call 1-877-4ED-PUBS.

RED RIBBON WEEK
Red Ribbon Week is October 21 – 25. This year’s theme is “Drugs Destroy

that all completed poster submissions be dropped off at the Guidance office
no later than Thursday, October 17th. Posters will be judged on
originality, creativity, and incorporation of this year’s theme. Winners
will be announced on Friday, October 25th.

baking goodies for the Holidays! The cookie dough comes pre-portioned which
means you do not have to thaw the dough before cooking! Payment should be
received before the order is turned in and tax is included. Checks should
be made to Chaires Elementary PTO. The sale ends Friday, October 25th.
Money and forms should be sent in by that day. Orders should be ready for
