PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
What a wonderful turn out at Open House! I was so excited to see so many
parents and children at school on Monday night. The chorus did a marvelous
job getting us started! I could tell they worked hard to prepare. And
wasn't the "Lost and Found" skit wonderful, too! I'm looking forward to
many fun activities next week. I hope that I'll see a lot of parents and
students on Skate Night (Tuesday, October 1st) as well as Family Movie
Night (Friday, October 4th). Also, in the near future, we will be
scheduling a "Community Build" in order to install brand new playground
equipment for our third, fourth, and fifth graders. Please be sure
to "stay tuned" to the newsletter for upcoming information.

Mrs. Olk’s Corner
Parent/Teacher Conferences – If you have not already done so, please
contact your child’s teacher to set up a conference to discuss his/her
achievement so far this year. Please remember how hard it is for teachers
to communicate when they are with their classes; please use notes, e-mails
or phone calls to contact teachers instead of waiting outside the classroom.

PICTURE DAY
Wednesday, October 2nd is Picture Day. A new company called Leonard’s out
of St. Augustine, FL will be doing the pictures this year. They offer a
satisfaction guarantee with retakes or money back. Your child should have
brought home an order form to pre-order your photos. Please choose the
package you would like and make checks payable to Leonard’s. Students will
hand their order envelope with payment to the photographer on that day.

LEON COUNTY MOBILE HEALTH UNIT
As you may be aware, the Leon County Mobile Health Unit comes out to the
Chaires’ community once a month. They have changed their location to the
parking lot of Chaires East (the old Chaires’ school). They are scheduled
to be there on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. They
offer the following services: Immunizations, family planning exams and
methods, blood pressure checks, HIV and STD testing, pregnancy testing,
mammogram & pap smear referrals and also health education. For more
information, please call 487-3186.

BOY SCOUTS & GIRL SCOUTS
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in 4th and 5th grade can earn citizenship badges
for helping out with the raising and lowering of the flag each day. If you
are interested in participating, please see Mrs. Church in the clinic.

FIELD DAY
Field Day is approaching soon. Parents, we need you to send in a white t-
shirt for your child if possible, to be tie-dyed. The class will decide
what color they want for their shirts. Then a parent(s) will need to tie-
dye the shirts for the class. Parents will get reimbursed for the dye as
long as they save the receipt. Field Day has been changed to Friday,
October 25th.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT
Friday, October 4th will be our first family movie night for this school
year. The movie will be “SPIRIT”. PTO will be serving dinner at 5:30pm and
the movie will begin promptly at 6:30pm. Snacks and drinks will also be
available for purchase. All students must be accompanied by an adult. The
cost for the movie is $1 per person.

Upcoming Events
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with a P indicate that we will be seeking parent
volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact the
front office by calling 878-8534.
