PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Special thanks to all of the students, parents, faculty and staff members
who contributed to the Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts! In addition to
the many household goods, toiletries, canned goods, and cat/dog food, we
raised $1,339.82 for the American Red Cross. Holly Devlieger, Student
Council President, and Jasmine Arnold, Student Council Vice President
joined me on Thursday as we turned in our check and all of Leon County
Schools presented a check in the amount of $89,000.00 in district-wide
press conference to the American Red Cross. It helps, in times of
disaster, when we can each play a part in helping other to get their feet
back under them. Thank you again, for your part in our efforts!

2005/2006 ATTENDANCE POLICY
Since absences and tardiness/leaving early are recorded on the report card,
we would like to remind you of our policy at Chaires.
Absences should be called in to the office (878-8534) with the reason when
a student is absent.
Out of town absences must be approved by Mrs. Moss, Principal, in order for
your child to receive an excused absence.
Tardiness occurs when a student is not in the classroom at the 2nd bell
(7:30am). Any student arriving after this time must be signed in by the
parent in the office and receive a tardy stamp or excused tardy slip.
Leaving Early occurs when a student leaves before dismissal (1:50pm).
Please remember, that leaving early after a field trip or without an
unacceptable reason will be considered unexcused.
In order for any of the above to be considered excused, it must be for an
acceptable reason allowed by the law: illness, medical/dental care, death
in family, or prearranged absences approved by an administrator.

The Gift Wrap has arrived. You may pick up your orders October 3-7 from
7:00am-8:00am in the cafeteria.

TEACHER PLANNING DAY
The Chaires Extended Day Program will offer a Teacher Planning Day
fieldtrip to "Fun Station" on Friday, October 14, 2005 from 7:00am-
6:00pm. Registration forms will be available September 26th.
Register Soon!!! Only 65 students can attend. Call 922-2866 for more
information. Cost for the day is $27.00. Check or money order payable to
Leon County Schools. First come, first serve.

FIELD DAY
Field Day will be held on Thursday, November 10th. Parents, we need you to
send in a plain white t-shirt for your child if possible, to be tie-dyed.
The class will decide what color to dye their shirts. Then a class parent
will tie-dye the shirts for the class. PTO will reimburse the parent who
purchases the dye as long as they save the receipt. (Please, RIT dye only.
No special/fancy kits.) It is important that every child has a shirt, so
if anyone would like to donate and extra whit t-shirt, that would be
greatly appreciated.

READING WITH YOUR CHILD
Reading is a skill and it gets better with practice. Research shows that
kids who spend as little as 30 minutes a day reading books, magazines and
newspapers are more likely to become good readers. Encourage your child to
spend some time reading every day.
Make Reading Easy. If your TV is within easy reach, but books are stored
on a high shelf, you can probably guess how your child will spend his/her
free time, But if they have their own bookshelf filled with interesting
books and TV time must be scheduled in advance, they'll probably pick up a
book.
Look for unusual places to read. Try outside under a shady tree, in a
sandbox or a hammock or at a nearby park. Toss a sheet over a clothesline
or table to create a hideaway. Keep books in the car for those long road
trips or traffic delays. Spread a blanket on the floor and have an indoor
reading picnic.

A Salute to our Partners
A special THANKS goes to Gary Gayle of PostNet. Mr. Gayle was kind enough
to send us a check for $25.00 as a contribution for our Hurricane Katrina
Relief Fund. The next time you need something copied, printed, faxed or
laminated stop by 6615 Mahan Drive, Suite 104. What an awesome partner!
