PRINCIPAL’S PAWS
Don't forget skate night next Tuesday! PTO has graciously approved
donating the proceeds to the "Chaires Cares" Relay for Life team. Coach
Hawkins will be there to race the kids! As always, I'll be there to do
the "Hokey Pokey" and "Chicken Dance."
Thanks to Deputy Mike Peters, our School Resource Officer, we now have
applications for the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch 2004 Summer Camp! This
camp will be from June 13-18 at "Caruth Camp" and is designed for boys and
girls from 10-15 years old. Activities may include arts & crafts, games,
sports, bicycling, challenge course, nature hikes, water safety, canoeing,
swimming, skits & songs, awards, archery and campfire activities. Also,
special law enforcement demonstrations may include K-9 units, SWAT teams,
helicopters, conservation and wildlife education. The only cost related to
this summer camp is the cost of your physical examination (required part of
application) and your transportation to and from the drop off/pick up
point. If you are interested in receiving an application, please contact
me by calling 878-8534. I'll send an application and flyer home with your
child.

MS. HOPE’S CORNER
We are almost there!!!!! This is the last nine weeks of the school year and
it is filled with many activities (i.e. the Spring Festival, field trips,
assembly programs, student/teacher/staff recognitions, etc.). Your
involvement in these activities is welcomed and strongly encouraged.
There have been questions about test results and the summer academy for
third graders. Test result due dates are all listed on the back on the
newsletter. The summer academy for 3rd graders will be June 7-July 15,
2004 and will be held at Apalachee, Astoria Park, Oakridge and Pineview
Elementary Schools.

SPRING AHEAD
Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, April 4th. Remember to set your
clocks ahead one hour before going to bed on Saturday.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION
All children attending kindergarten in August of 2004 and their parents are
invited to our Kindergarten Orientation on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 8:00am
in the Cafeteria. We will have a short presentation from the schools’
administration, guidance counselor, PTO representative and a Kindergarten
teacher. The presentation will be followed by a guided tour of the
Kindergarten classrooms. This will be a good time for you and your child
to get a feel for what Kindergarten at Chaires is all about. Registration
packets will be available. We look forward to your visit!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU
Special thanks to parents who worked so hard over spring break to prepare
the area for our new playground equipment on the K-2 “Castle Playground.”
Thanks for all of your hard work!! Richard Noakes, Frank Brigance, Jim
Willenbrink, Chris Evelo, and also Leslie and Del Wilkinson.

SPRING FESTIVAL
Spring Festival will be held on Saturday, April 17th this year. We would
like to invite anyone that is interested, eager and ready to begin working
on their classes’ booth to please join us for an organizational and working
meeting. The meetings are on Tuesday mornings, from 8:00am-9:00am and also
6:00pm-7:00pm in the Media Center. We will continue these meetings every
Tuesday until the festival. If you will need any special supplies to work

[log in to unmask] Together, we can make this festival the one to
remember.

SILENT AUCTION
We are still seeking donations for the Silent Auction. Donations can be
monetary, gift certificates for goods or services, or items from your
business. Since the Chaires Panther PTO is a registered non-profit
organization, any donation received can be considered tax deductible. We
will provide you with a receipt documenting your gift. You may drop off
donations with your child’s teacher or in the front office.

GROUP PICTURES
We will be taking class pictures on Friday, April 9th. Photos must be
ordered and paid for on picture day. You may order more than one if you
desire. Return this envelope on picture day. The cost is $10.00 and
checks are payable to Leonards. The pictures will be taken outside on the
playground. In case we have bad weather we will take them in the Cafeteria
on the stage

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with an X indicate that we will be seeking
parent volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact

Good News At Chaires:
Spirit Stick Award
Congratulations to the following most “Spirited” classes for the week of
March 18th: Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Padgett, Mrs. Laney, Mrs. Grigg, and Mrs.
Toner. These classes had the most students in their grade level wearing
purple and gold.

CLINIC AWARDS
Congratulations to our winning clinic award classes. Mrs. Laney’s class
won the Safety Award by having the least number of visits to the clinic for
accidents. Ms. Balance’s class won the Empty Cot Award for having the
fewest number of illness related clinic visits. These classes enjoyed a
delicious cupcake party provided by Publix, one of our school partners.
Thank you, Publix!
