Principal’s Pause
I am so proud of the wonderful job our fourth grade students, fifth grade
chorus and music teacher did at the Holiday performances this week. The
entire school enjoyed the lively assemblies! Our reindeers may even make
it to the Tallahassee Democrat, as a reporter was here doing an article on
how schools celebrate the various holidays at this time of year.
I would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe holiday season. I hope
that everyone will take this time to relax, enjoy your time together, and
read! We’ll see the students back on January 6th!

MRS. OLK’S CORNER: Borders Science Night
Beginning in January 2004, the Center for Integrating Research and Learning
at the NHMFL will conduct Science Night at Border’s for children of all
ages. On the first Wednesday of each month educators will present hands-on
activities on a variety of science subjects such as magnets and magnetism,
optics, states of matter and how scientists explore the world around them.
Each science topic will include a literature link to a work of fiction that
is read to participants. The first Science Night will take place on
January 7, 2004 at 7:00p.m. at Border’s on Apalachee Parkway.

TEACHER PLANNING DAY
Monday, January 5th is a teacher planning day. There is no school for
students. STUDENTS RETURN FROM THE HOLIDAY BREAK ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 6TH.

HOLIDAY STORE HELPERS
We would like to extend many thanks to all the wonderful parents who helped
out at our holiday store. We couldn’t have done it without you! A special
thanks goes to Patti Brigance and Kim Williams who organized and
coordinated this effort.

OPEN AIRWAYS IN SCHOOLS
We would like to congratulate the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who
completed the “Open Airways in Schools” class given by Mrs. Church. This
class was given to asthmatic students to help manage their condition and
reduce absences related to this illness.

THE NUTCRACKER
Congratulations to Devin Demirpolat and Candace Norton for being chosen to
perform in Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker. The performance was
held at the Civic Center on Monday.

SANTA’S HELPER’S
We would like to send a special thank you to Capital Eurocars for providing
Christmas gifts for two of our Chaires’ families.

JUST READ, FAMILIES!
Here is a website for a new reading program entitled “Just Read, Families!
For the Holidays.” This website, www.justreadfamilies.org/fortheholidays,
offers parents the tools they need to nurture a reading-friendly
environment at home during the holidays. Resources include links to county
and municipal public libraries, tips for parents on how to read well with
children, and a list of recommended books with holiday themes.

LOST AND FOUND
Now that the cold weather has arrived our lost and found pile is growing.
If your child has lost a coat, jacket, sweatshirt or any clothing item
please check the rack located in the lunchroom. After the holidays, any
leftover clothing will be donated to Coats for Kids.

PHOTOS WANTED
Parents, we are looking for photos for the yearbook. Have you have taken
any pictures at the Dare Graduation, Skate Night, field trips or any school
function? You can drop off any donated photos to Susan Fordham in the
office.

HOLIDAY PROGRAM HELPERS
Mrs. Kilpatrick would like to thank the many parents who helped her with
the holiday program. They helped with costumes, scenery and organization.
Thanks for making our program such a success.
