PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
This year is quickly coming to an end. It sounds like the third, fourth
and fifth graders REALLY enjoyed their field trips to Wakulla Springs, St.
Augustine and Sea World. I heard wonderful comments about having so many
terrific chaperones. We couldn't do all of the exciting activities without
your support!
Once again, Mrs. Jan Kilpatrick has outdone herself! The second grade
dramatic presentation of "BUGZ" was marvelous. It was so nice to see the
musical and dramatic talents of our students. I hope to see you out at
school next Tuesday night (6:00 p.m.) for our fifth grade drama
titled, "Reach for the Stars." The PTO will be serving a pizza dinner at
5:30 p.m. for your convenience.

MRS. OLK’S CORNER
We will begin accepting parent letters for the next school year describing
the type of teacher and learning environment that is best for your child.
Remember, do not mention names of specific teachers, just describe what
works best for your child. Please address them to me and turn them in by
May 30th.

BREAKFAST & LUNCH PRICE INCREASE
The Leon County School Board approved an INCREASE in the price of school
breakfast and lunch prices to be effective when school begins in August
2003. These new prices will not affect free/reduced meal prices. Also, we
will not be serving breakfast in the classrooms next year. Students wishing
to purchase or receive free/reduced breakfast will need to report to the
cafeteria for breakfast prior to the first bell at 7:25am. Breakfast
prices: $.75/student, $1.25/adult Lunch prices: $1.50/student,
$2.50/adult

JUST READ, FAMILIES!
Governor Bush has proclaimed May as Just Read, Families! Month and has
launched a website which provides information for parents so they can take
an active role in reading with their children this summer. The Just Read,
Families! website, www.justreadfamilies.org, offers parents the tools they
need to nurture a reading-friendly environment at home. Resources include a
calendar of daily reading activities, links to local libraries, and
articles on developing children’s reading skills. Research shows that
children who do not continue reading through the summer can lose a month or
more of progress they made in school the past year.

MEDICATION REMINDER
This is just a reminder that all medication that is in the clinic, must be
picked up by a parent at the end of the school year. Any medication that is
not picked up by Thursday, June 5th, will be discarded.

5th GRADE END OF THE YEAR ACTIVITIES
Our 5th graders are preparing for their end of the year activities that
will be held during the last week of school. Please check the back of the
newsletter for the dates and times of the Cookout, Awards Ceremony, Ice
Cream Social, Articulation Ceremony and the Dance. You should have received
a flyer with more details.

5TH GRADE MUSICAL DRAMA PERFORMANCE
PTO will be sponsoring a pizza dinner on the evening of the 5th grade
Musical Drama performance on Tuesday, May 20th. Dinner will be served at
5:30pm and the performance will begin at 6:00pm in the cafeteria. COME AND
ENJOY THE EVENING WITH US!

in their classrooms approximately at 10:00am. Box lunches are on the menu

IS YOUR CHILD IN NEED OF IMMUNIZATIONS?
This is just a reminder that the Leon Co. Mobile Health Unit comes out to
Chaires on the 4th Tuesday of each month. The next scheduled stop will be
Tuesday, May 27th, from 1:30-3:30pm in the Chaires East parking lot.
Immunizations are provided for FREE by the Health Department. This service
will continue throughout the summer. They do require that you bring a copy
of your child’s current shots. If you have any questions, please call the
Health Department at 487-3186.
