PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
What is Kids Voting?
Kids Voting Leon County is a nonprofit, nonpartisan program devoted to
educating students in grades K-12 about the voting process and civic
responsibility. In a country where voter apathy is an ever-increasing
problem, Kids Voting wants to encourage young people to learn early the
importance of exercising their right to vote. Kids Voting Leon County
currently has approximately 40,000 students eligible to vote in over 100
precincts!
How do we bring this vision into focus?
• We supply teachers with sample ballots and curriculum support about
the upcoming local, state, and national elections to help educate students
about the issues at school.
• We provide educational materials to students and parents through
the Newspaper in Education pages every Tuesday from September 26 through
November 14 in the Tallahassee Democrat.
• We encourage students to vote with their parents at the Kids Voting
booth at their local polling place on Election Day.
How can you help Kids Voting in our mission?
• Discuss current election issues and candidates with your children
and talk to them about the importance of voting. Take your children to
vote with you on Election Day at your precinct.
• Show your enthusiasm for casting your own vote.
• Make a monetary contribution to Kids Voting.
• Volunteer your business, organization, or family to adopt a
precinct for the November 7 election.

Rent-a-Sign
Rent the sign in front of the school, by the Extended Day Portable, to say
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, OR GOOD JOB to that special someone. To
reserve your space, complete an order form in the front office. We rent
the sign for $15.00 starting on Saturday or Wednesday. If you would like
to rent the entire week the cost is $30.00. Space is limited and will be
on a first come, first serve basis.

CLEMONS CORNER
We are having a number of children being picked up late in the afternoon.
Our students get out of school at 1:50 p.m. We provide supervision until
2:30p.m. This rule also pertains to ESE bus students who are brought back
to the school because no one met them at their bus stop. If an emergency
should arise, please notify the office prior to 2:15 p.m. Starting October
2nd, students not picked up by 2:30 p.m. will be sent to the after-school
program where parents will be charged a $20.00 drop in fee. Thanks in
advance for your support.

NEWS FROM PE
If you signed your child up for the Champions program you have probably
heard about how hard we work and have seen how sore you kids have been!
They are doing a great job. All students received their first choice of
days to attend the program. Please have you child wear appropriate shoes or
clothing and bring a water bottle or Gatorade on their Champions day.
Also, the time has changed. We are ending the program at 3:15 on the dot,
so please make arrangements to have your child picked up at that time.
Children who are not picked up on time will be sent to the Extended Day
Program for a fee. If your child is already in the Extended Day Program we
will send them back to their after school teachers at 3:15.
We are so glad that your children have joined this very worthwhile fitness
program! If you have not signed your child up yet and would like to, please
contact Coach Lang or Coach Escobedo for information.

Families that Read together Succeed Together
Arrange a special time to read together every day. Just before bed, in the
morning, after dinner-whatever works best for your family.
Find a quiet place where you can snuggle up and relax with one another.
Visit your library to pick out interesting stories and books of all kinds.
Select them together, or have each of you find something that excites you
and that youngsters will enjoy.
Use different voices for the characters. Make faces and gestures, and add
sound effects.
Have each person who is able to read take a turn. Beginning readers can
take shorter turns if they like.
Ask questions about what you read, such as "How do you think this story
will end?" or "What was you favorite part of the story? Why?"
