PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
I am excited to share that we have our computer lab up and running! All of
the students in grades three through five began their daily visits to the
computer lab on Monday this week. First and second graders will begin next
week! The best thing about the computer lab is that students work on their
individual level to improve skills in reading and math. So, if your child
has fallen a bit behind, this is a great way to help them catch up on those
skills needed to be successful! Or, if your child is above grade level,
this is a terrific way to challenge them to continue to improve their
skills!
Another positive note is that our Accelerated Reader program has been
upgraded and installed in all classrooms, as well! I’m sure you will be
hearing more from your child’s teacher on the exciting reading motivation
program.
I would like to remind parents that our morning supervision begins at 7:00
a.m. For your child’s safety, please be sure not to drop them off prior to
7:00, as we do not have our staff and faculty members on duty until 7:00
a.m. Also, if you like to walk your child in to class, please be sure to
park in front of the portable at the front of the school so that you don’t
cause a safety problem for children at the back of the school. We need
your help to keep everyone safe!

MRS. OLK CORNER
Today your child was given a purple “bus ridership card”. If he/she rode
the bus home today they were instructed to give it to the driver. If they
did not ride it home they will need to give it to the bus driver the first
time they ride the bus. We are asking that all children ride the bus at
least once between October 3-16 so that we will receive maximum funding for
bus services.

PICTURE DAY
Individual picture day is coming soon. It will be Friday, October 10, 2003.
These pictures will be prepaid; students will need to hand the photographer
their order envelope with payment on that day. Be sure you have checked off
the package that you want and include cash or a check made payable to
LEONARD’S. This is the picture that is used for the yearbook, therefore,
even if you choose not to purchase pictures, your child’s picture will be
taken for the yearbook.

EXTENDED DAY
Sign up now for the October 17th Teacher Planning Day, Activity Day. We’re
going to Crenshaw Lanes and Tom Brown Park. After the field trip, we’ll
have our own Carnival with Cotton Candy, Popcorn, Snow Cones, and fun
carnival games. Call 922-2866 for more information or send in your
Activity Day flyer registration along with a check for $25.00 made out to
the Chaires Extended Day Enrichment Program. Hurry! Limited enrollment!!!!

GUIDANCE NEWS
Our Guidance office is sponsoring an Anti-Bullying Presentation to be held
on Tuesday, October 14th from 6:30-8:00PM in the cafeteria. Guest Speaker
Rosemary Prince will be showing a video and giving away lots of valuable
information and many handouts. Free babysitting will be available for
children ages 3-8. Homework passes will be given for all students in
attendance with a parent.

SCIENCE WISH LIST
Ms. Koenig wants to thank everyone who has sent in baby food jars. She has
an ample supply for now, but is still in need of flashlights, D size
batteries, and bulbs for the flashlights. Thank you for supporting the
Wonderful World of Science.

ABSENCES
In order for an out of town absence to be excused, the parent must write a
note/letter to Mrs. Moss for approval. If you mention the educational
value or emergency nature of the trip it will most likely be excused. If
we do not have a signed approval from Mrs. Moss, we have to count the
absence as unexcused until we receive the approval.

FALL FIELD DAY
Please join us at Skate Night for a Field Day Organizational Meeting. We
will meet on Tuesday, October 7th at 6:30pm. Anyone interested in helping
is welcome to attend. Let’s make this a great day for the students!

CLINIC AWARDS
Congratulations to our winning clinic award classes. Mrs. Murphy’s class
won the safety award by having the least number of visits to the clinic for
accidents. Mrs. Hintzen’s class won the Empty Cot Award for having the
fewest number of illness related clinic visits. These classes enjoyed a
delicious cupcake party provided by Publix, one of our school partners.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with a P indicate that we will be seeking parent
