PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Report cards went home this week and we held the first of our quarterly
awards assemblies. We had a total of 499 awards! 123 students made all A's,
B's, and E's earning the Gold Panther Award; 108 students made all E's
earning the Purple Panther Award; 41 students showed the most improvement
in their class to earn the Panther Pride Award; and 227 students had no
absences and no unexcused tardies to earn the Panther Cub Award for perfect
attendance. All of the students have been challenged to be on their best
behavior and putting forth their best effort so that we can recognize even
more students next quarter! Parents, we need your help. Bring your friends
and neighbors, too! We will be conducting a community build to install the
brand new 3rd – 5th grade playground. Saturday, November 9th starting at
8:00 a.m. we can use your help! Please call T.J. DeVlieger at 556-4739 or
942-2042 after 5:00 p.m. if you would like to volunteer.

Mrs. Olk’s Corner
The Department of Education has issued the following communication
regarding Scholastic’s Reading Tips for Parents brochure. Clifford the Big
Red Dog has some great tips for teachers and parents about the five
essential components of reading. Thanks to our partnership with Scholastic,
we are happy to share these with you! Scholastic’s Reading Tips for Parents
brochure may be viewed at:

Parents, we also have our Book Fair coming up the whole week of November
18th with family night on Tuesday, November 19th. We are in need of parents
to help set up the book fair and also to work at various times during that
week in the Media Center. If you can spare an hour or two, please let us
know by calling the office at 878-8534.

PATRIOTIC PROGRAM
We will have our Patriotic Program next Friday, November 8th for all
classes, during the day, in the cafeteria. There will be no evening
program. Parents are welcome to attend and everyone is encouraged to wear
red, white, and blue. We do have some patriotic t-shirts available for
purchase in the front office, although sizes are limited. The program is
being broken down into 3 programs in order to have room to accommodate
parents. The schedule is as follows:
 Pre-K, K, & 1st 8:00am
 2nd & 3rd 9:15am
 4th & 5th 10:30am
Hope to see you there!!

BOOK FAIR/ PTO BOARD MEETING/ FAMILY READING NIGHT & PORTRAITS
We have many items on the agenda for Tuesday evening, November 19th. First
of all, we have our book fair going on this entire week, but on the evening
of the 19th, from 5:00pm – 7:30pm. Parents can come out and view all the
interesting books and other exciting things available for purchase. This is
also family reading night and we will have storytellers reading stories to
students and families in the Art Room (Rm.#501) and the Music Room
(Rm.#502). Our photographers from Leonard’s will be here to take family
portraits for anyone interested. And, finally, PTO will meet with parent
representatives for a short meeting in the cafeteria at 5:30pm. All parents
are welcome to attend PTO Board meetings.

FUNDRAISER UPDATE
At this time, both fundraisers (candy & gift wrap and the cookie dough)
will be ready for pickup on Friday, November 22nd. Our PTO will send out a
flyer with more details. If you have any questions, please call the office
at 878-8534.

VETERAN’S DAY
Monday, November 11th is Veteran’ Day. School will be closed on that day.
We hope you enjoy this time off with your family and friends.

TENNIS ANYONE?
USA Team Tennis League sponsored by Chuck E Cheese will be offering
beginner lessons/play at the Chaires Community Center tennis courts. The
classes will begin Saturday November 9th for ages 6-11. The cost is $25. We
will have registration flyers available in the office. For more
information, please call Rob Mayewski at 878-0969.

SILENT AUCTION
PTO is already working on the Silent Auction, which is being changed to
Tuesday, December 17th. On this night, PTO will also hold their annual
Holiday Dinner beginning at 5:30pm. Parents, please keep in mind, that if
each student donated one item to be auctioned, we would have a fantastic
auction. Local businesses have been very generous in the past with their
donations, but if you know someone who is crafty, homemade items are always
quite popular and greatly appreciated! This has always been a fun filled
family night and a good way to take care of some of your holiday shopping!
Stay tuned to future newsletters for more details.

Upcoming Events
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with a P indicate that we will be seeking parent
volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact the
front office by calling 878-8534.
