Dear Parents,
It was so nice to see so many of you at our Open House on Monday. I hope
each of you received the promotion criteria and testing information
regarding your child. It is so important that you know early on exactly
what your child needs to know and be able to do in order to be successful
and meet promotion criteria. I hope you also got your “treat” for coming.
Please know that we can only be successful with your child’s education with
you as our partner! Thank you for the hard work you do to reinforce what
your children are learning in class.
Please join us for our first PTO meeting next week!

MEDIA CENTER NEWS
If you received a letter last week from the Media Center stating that your
child had unreturned books from last year, please make every effort to find
those books and return them. Other students are waiting to check out these
missing books.

School Safety Patrol
Ever get frustrated while sitting in the car pick up or drop off line?
Ever think that there ought to be a quicker, more efficient way to handle
traffic? In order to make long car lines a thing of the past, we are
implementing a School Safety Patrol. Fourth and fifth graders are eligible
to participate. Students will serve on a rotating basis, changing out
every nine week grading period. Our first patrol will begin duty on
Monday, October 16th. Please look for an information letter and
application to come home with your child. If you would like to assist with
this program, please email Mary Barber at [log in to unmask]

CLEMONS CORNER
I would like to take this time to thank all parents for helping us to have
such a smooth start this school year. Our teachers and staff do an
enormous amount of work to prepare for a new school year; however your
support is very important in helping us make the first weeks of school
positive. Thank you parents!!
Just as a friendly reminder, please make sure your students are reading
daily. Daily reading will increase your child’s vocabulary and fluency
skills. If your child says, “I don’t have any homework”, you should
respond by saying, “get a book and read for at least 20 minutes”. The more
your child reads the better reader he/she will become.

ATTENDANCE POLICY 2006-2007
Since absences and tardiness/leaving early are recorded on the report card,
we would like to remind you of our policy at Chaires. As stated in the
district policy, the law allows absences for illness or medical care, death
in the family, religious holidays, or prearranged absences approved by an
administrator. Absences - please call the office (878-8534) to report the
absence with the reason. Going out of town is not an excused absence
unless it has been approved by Mrs. Moss, Principal. Please send a note to
Mrs. Moss with the reason for the absence and she will alert the office as
to whether it is approved or not. Tardiness occurs when a student is not in
the classroom at the 2nd bell (7:30am). Any student arriving after this
time must be signed in by the parent in the office and receive a tardy
stamp or excused tardy slip. Leaving Early occurs when a student leaves
before dismissal (1:50pm). Tardiness and Leaving early is only excused with
an acceptable reason (i.e., doctor appt., dentist appt., death in family,
etc.) Please note: Leaving early after a field trip is considered unexcused.
Upcoming Events!

Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with an X indicate that we will be seeking
parent volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact
the front office by calling 878-8534.
