PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Just two more weeks of school before we’re out for the holiday break!
Hasn’t this year just gone by so quickly? The students are working hard to
finish the second semester strong. I can tell that many students are
working toward honor roll goals.
We’ve had a slight time change for our early release days. We will begin
dismissal at 11:20 (instead of 10:50) on December 17th, 18th, & 19th.
Please be sure that you have child care plans for these three “half-days.”
The Chaires Extended Day Enrichment Program is available, so feel free to
contact Cathy Davis at 922-2866 for more information.
We’re still looking for parent assistance for our Holiday Store! We had
the preview today and the store will be open in the Guidance Hallway during
school hours next week. If you can volunteer your time, please contact
the office and we’ll put you In touch with the PTO!

MRS. OLK CORNER
The Chaires School Tropicana Speech Contest was held on Thursday, December
4th. Sixteen speakers, all fifth graders, presented their original speeches
for our four judges, fourth and fifth grade students and parents. Isabel
Pateritsas was the first place winner and will represent Chaires at the
district contest in January. Second place went to Chelsea Sims, third place
to Candace Daymond, and an honorable mention to Alexis Mills. All sixteen
speeches were exceptional and we are very proud of our public speakers!

EARLY RELEASE
There has been a change in the early release times for December 17, 18 and
19. The students will be released at 11:20am. Boxed lunches will be
available for purchase.

PARKING PROBLEMS
We are still having problems with parents dropping off children in the
front of the school and driving off. If you are arriving late for school
make sure to walk your child to the office to sign in. When you need to
park to volunteer or walk your child to class, please park in front of the
Extended Day Portable on the grass. Our teachers and staff have assigned
spaces in the front and back of the school.

PAWSOME PARENTS
Thank you to our wonderful parents who were tireless in helping us to
assemble the Young Explorers computer workstations: Charles Tacot, Patti
Brigance, Julie Sanders, Karen Dennis and Judy Hague. The students are
having a great time using them.

BLANKET DAYS
Our Elderly and families suffering from HOME FIRES throughout Florida’s Big
Bend Region need comfort and warmth this winter, and you can help by
participating in the Capital Area Blanket Days campaign. To find blanket
drop off points or for additional information call the Capital Area Chapter
of the American Red Cross in Tallahassee at 878-6080or visit their website
at: www.tallytown.com/redcross/blanket.html

HOLIDAY STORE
The Holiday Store will be open for students to preview on Friday, December
5th. On this day, teachers will bring their students to preview the items
that will be available for purchase the following week (12-8 through 12-
12). This is a great opportunity for students to purchase gifts for their
siblings, parents, grandparents, etc. Gifts prices vary from $.50 to $10.00.

HOLIDAY DINNER & PROGRAM
Mark your calendar for our annual PTO holiday dinner and program sponsored
by our Fourth Grade. Join us on December 16th at 5:00pm for a delicious

today with more information.

Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with an X indicate that we will be seeking
parent volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact

Good News At Chaires

Spirit Stick Award
Congratulations to the following “most spirited” classes for the week of
November 21st . Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Padgett, Mrs. Laney, Mrs. DeRouin and Mrs.
Toner. These classes had the most students in their grade level wearing
purple and gold.

GOLDEN SPOON AWARDS
Our Golden Spoon Awards for best lunchroom behavior in November are: Mrs.
Fortune, Mrs. Burnett, and Mrs. Adams. The prizes were supplied by the
Vineyard Publix. Keep up the good work!

CLINIC AWARDS
Congratulations to our winning clinic award classes. Mrs. Coleman’s class
won the Safety Award by having the least number of visits to the clinic for
accidents. Mrs. Hintzen’s class won the Empty Cot Award for having the
fewest number of illness related clinic visits. These classes enjoyed a
delicious cupcake party provided by Publix, one of our school partners.
Thank you Publix!

Here is an easy way to make a difference this holiday season.
Campbell's is donating a can of soup to the needy for every person that
goes to their site and votes for their favorite NFL team. Go to the site
and it is right there, very easy to do. It will only take a few seconds of
your time to fill some empty tummies with warm soup this winter. Thanks.
