Congratulations to Gianna Tarquinio  
 the 2009 Big Bend Spelling Bee Champion.  
Gianna was the Leon County winner and now she will be going to
Washington DC to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. It
has been several years since a Leon County winner has emerged as
Regional Champion and the Leon County Reading Council is very proud of
Gianna . 
 
You can watch the heart stopping event at the following times on WFSU
(Comcast Channel 4): Feb 17 at 8:30pm, Feb. 19 at 7pm, Feb. 22 at 8pm,
Feb. 24 at 7pm, Feb 25 at 7:30pm, Feb. 26 at 8:30pm, Feb. 27 at 8pm, and
Feb 28 at 6pm.

All Reading Council members and those who want to become members may
attend.  This workshop will support your instruction on performance
poetry, poetry to build fluency and poetry to empower the reluctant
reader. Ideas and information are appropriate for most grade levels and
will support the teachers who have students entering the Poetry Jam.
Additional information concerning the Poetry Jam will also be provided
at this meeting.

Library.

  Young Writer's Workshop with Adrian Fogelin on February 28th at the
downtown Public Library  
The workshop will be divided into the following age categories. All who
entered are invited.
Grades K-2:    10:00 a.m. - 1 1:00  a.m.
Grades 3-5:     11: 15  a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Grades 6-12:      1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. 
Entries will be returned to schools this week along with information for
winners. Please invite all participants to both events and encourage
them to enter again next year. Thank you for supporting the Leon County
Reading Council in our efforts to share the love of literacy and
