PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Are you asking yourself, “Why is the newsletter on red paper this week?”
If so, turn and ask your child. I’ll bet they know the answer! We have
celebrated Red Ribbon Week all week long in a variety of ways! Our third
graders performed an AWESOME program and our fourth grade recorder group
did an EXCELLENT job in their first performance of the year. We had record
sales at our Book Fair this week. With our first report card of the year
coming home, we also had a chance to celebrate excellence and recognize our
top AR readers and honor roll recipients. Special thanks to the SAC, PTO
and all of our volunteers who helped with all of our events this week. We
could not do all of the marvelous things we do at Chaires without your
support!

CLINIC NEWS
In an attempt to decrease the spread of flu and other communicable diseases
in the school setting, Leon County School Health and Nursing Services is
asking all parents to adhere to the following guidelines:
• If your child complains of flu-like symptoms, such as body aches,
headache, chronic cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, please keep your
child out of school. If your child does not feel well, he/she is not able
to learn and other children may become sick.
• Children must be fever-free and not vomiting for a minimum of 24
hours, and not taking anti-fever medications such as Tylenol or Advil.
• Do not send your child to school with medication. Parents must
bring any medication to school and complete a Medication Permission Form.
This includes medicines such as cough drops and throat lozenges.
• Please update the emergency phone numbers for your child if you
have moved, changed or added new numbers. It is very important to be able
to contact a responsible adult in the event of an illness or accident at
school.
CLEMONS CORNER
We are at that time of year, where our weather is beginning to cool off.
Many times, it is cold in the morning, but by noon it has warmed up. As
you are already aware, our students are outside in the morning until 7:25
a.m., if weather permits. Weather keeping students inside would be rain,
lightening, and below 38 degrees. Some children and adults are freezing
when it is 39 degrees, so please make sure that your child is dressed
appropriately for our wonderful “Tallahassee” Weather.

A TRIBUTE TO DANIEL CHAIRES
I will miss Daniel's friendly smile and great sense of humor. He will be
forever missed, but not forgotten. - Mrs. Derrenberger
It was a joy teaching Daniel in the third grade. He was always a
respectful, kind and thoughtful student. He will truly be missed by all.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
With deepest sympathy, Elaine Padgett.

FLAG CEREMONY
The Cub Scouts in the Wolf Den performed a Flag Ceremony on Tuesday,
October 17 in order to complete their requirement for advancement. The
scouts learned how to respect our flag by never letting it touch the ground
and also how to fold the flag the correct way.
TIME CHANGE
Daylight Savings Time ends on Saturday, October 28th. Remember to set your
clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday.
