PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
I am so pleased with the parental participation at the grade level parent
meetings we held this week!  I'm sure we'll see just as many parents
attending the 3rd and 5th grade parent meetings next week.  It has been
nice being able to share with you the grade level academic expectations,
testing schedule, and promotion criteria.  In addition, I'm excited about
the incentives that we have planned for recognizing students for academics,
attendance, citizenship, and effort this school year.  With your support,
Chaires will continue to improve.  We went from a "C" to a "B" in the
school grading last school year; we're on our way to an "A" thanks to you!

Mrs. Olk’s Corner
We are so proud of all the students and staff who showed their patriotic
spirit on September 11th. Over 75% of our Chaires’ family wore red, white
and blue! We will calculate the numbers in each classroom and count these
as the spirit day winners for the week. Thank you all for participating.

REMINDERS
Please mark your calendars for Open House, September 23, at 6:00pm and
Picture Day, October 2nd.

BREAKFAST NOTICE
At this time breakfast is served to Pre-k and Kindergarten classes in the
cafeteria until 7:30am. Grades 1-5 are served breakfast in the classroom
between 7:30am and 7:40am. Children who arrive after 7:40 will not be
served breakfast as we begin our academic schedule promptly at 7:30. Please
contact Ms. Lewis if you have any questions or concerns.

ATTENDANCE REMINDER
This is just a reminder that we are not signing students out of class after
1:30pm in the afternoon. It is very important for all students to be in
class until dismissal at 1:50pm. Early dismissals and late arrivals are
counted as a tardy on the report card.

CAR PICK-UP PROCEDURE
The car drop-off and pick-up is going a lot smoother since the first couple
weeks of school. More students are now riding the bus. A suggestion was
made for afternoon pick-up that we thought would help. If you will place a
sign in the front windshield, the teachers will call out to your child(ren)
and help them load more quickly.

FUNDRAISER NOTICE
Fundraising orders were due to the school by today. The PTO is now
gathering all the information and making calculations before sending the
orders off. If you still have your fundraising packet, please turn it in as
soon as possible. Orders will be sent in next Friday, September 20th. We
expect the merchandise to be delivered within 4-6 weeks.

TELEPHONE COUNSELING & REFERRAL SERVICE, INC.
PhoneFriend is an after school telephone line specifically geared to listen
to children’s concerns between the ages of 5 through 15. It is a free
service for them to use Monday through Friday between 3 and 6pm, all year
round. If you need a friend, call 222-1141. The counseling and referral
service also offers a Helpline24 that may benefit students, parents and
faculty.
