PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Special thanks to all of the parents who attended the Writing Seminar for
Parents on Tuesday evening. I would also like to thank Gia Kolias from
Student Assessment for presenting; Vineyard Publix, our business partner,
for providing the snacks; Cathy Davis and the Extended Day staff for
providing babysitting services; Kim Williams and our PTO for providing the
drinks and selling their FCAT preparation materials; and many of the
teachers who attended and assisted with the event! Our event was so well-
attended, that we will host two additional parent seminars. Please mark
your calendars and plan to attend: Tuesday, January 11th, Reading Testing
Parent Seminar at 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, February 8th, Math Testing Parent
Seminar at 5:30 p.m. We hope to see MANY parents those nights.
Here is an excerpt from the “Parents’ and Guardians’ Guide to the 2003 Test

Encouraging Your Child to Write
Your daily contact with your child provides you with unique opportunities
to be involved with your child’s education inside and outside the
classroom. You can encourage your child to write by:
•Talking to your child about what he or she has written at home and at
school;
•Having your child write letters to friends and relatives;
•Writing notes to your child
•Speaking with teachers about the development of your child’s writing
skills;
•Supporting a variety of writing tasks in your child’s school curriculum;
•Displaying stories, essays, or other written works at home on the
refrigerator or bulletin board; and
•Demonstrating the value of writing in real life situations (e.g., keeping
a diary or writing stories, poems and letters).

MRS. MCCASKILL’S CORNER
Our students have been doing a great job following our school rules. We
want to encourage you to stress the importance of following school rules.
We have completed our second DIBELS and WUR (Writes Upon Request) this
week. We really appreciate your participation at our first Writes Upon
Request workshop on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 here in the cafeteria. If
you were not able to attend, please call the school or stop by to get the
information that was distributed to the parents. We want you to know how
much we appreciate your assistance and cooperation as we continue to give
your children the best education we can while they are with us. Remember to
read to your children each day and have them read to you each day. THANKS
PARENTS!
"What counts is not the number of hours you put in, but how much you put in
the hours."

LOST AND FOUND
Now that we are moving into the cooler months, our lost and found is
growing. If you have lost a jacket, or any clothing item, please have your
child check the rack in the cafeteria. To help us in returning a lost
jacket to your child, please write their name on the tag.
