PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
As the holiday season nears, we want to continue the exciting progress our
students are making in reading. The "Just Read, Families!  For the Holidays
website, http://www.justreadfamilies.org, offers parents and students great
selections that are fun for the holidays. Please visit this site with your
children to encourage reading during this holiday season.

MRS. MCCASKILL’S CORNER
CONGRATULATIONS to our winners of the Tropicana Speech Contest.  The
contest was held on Friday, December 10, 2004 at our school.  All of the
speeches were very good.  Unfortunately, there could be only 3 winners.  We
are so proud and pleased to announce the names.  They are:
1st  Place -Jennifer Griffth (Mrs. Horne’s class)
2nd Place - Christina Pateritsis (Mrs. Coleman’s class)
3rd Place -  MacKenzie Erven (Mrs. Toner’s class)

MOVING OVER THE HOLIDAYS?
Holiday time is a popular time for families to move to other areas.  If you
are planning to move over the holidays, please let the office know ahead of
time so that we can prepare a withdrawal form and make sure your child’s
records are in order.  If you have any questions, please call us at 878-
8534.

Families Building Better Readers
Leon County Schools and The Florida Department of Education present
Families Building Better Readers workshop for parents of students K- 5th.
This workshop will:
Provide parents with simple instructional activities that they can do with
their children to improve reading performance.
Provide parents with resources that will help improve their children’s
literacy throughout life.
Provide free parent tool kit.
The workshop will be held at Hartsfield Elementary School 1414 Chowkeebin
Nene on Thursday, January 6, 2005.  Registration and complimentary dinner
begin 6:00-6:30pm.  The workshop will be from 6:30-8:30pm.  Please call the
Leon County Division of Teaching and Learning at 413-0441 if you plan to
attend.

TEACHER PLANNING DAY
Monday, January 3rd is a teacher planning day.  There is no school for
students.  STUDENTS RETURN FROM THE HOLIDAY BREAK ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 4TH.

LOST AND FOUND
Now that winter has arrived, our lost and found is growing.  If you have
lost a jacket, or any clothing item, please have your child check the rack
in the cafeteria. We will donate the leftover clothing to a local charity
in January.  To help us in returning a lost jacket to your child, please
write their name on the tag.

Citizen’s of the Week
Congratulations to the Citizens of the Week.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Spirit Stick Award
Congratulations to the following most “Sprited” classes for the week of
December 10th.  These classes had the most students in their grade level
wearing purple and gold on Friday.  They are:  Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Padgett,
Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Bedford/Mrs. Weigman, Mrs. Perez, and Mrs. Derrenberger.

Morning Announcement Helpers
We would like to thank the students who helped deliver morning
announcements from Mrs. Anderson’s’ second grade class the week of December
6th.  WAY TO GO!

Awesome Panther
Congratulations to Patrick Titus in Mrs. Toner’s fifth grade class for
earning an honorable mention in the Tallahassee Democrat’s Holiday Memories
Contest.  Keep up the great writing!
