PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
We are nearly half-way through the third grading period which means that
progress alerts will be coming out next week. On THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9th,
you may receive a progress alert for your child. Remember, progress alerts
are our way of helping you to get the children caught up and back on track
before report card grades come out. If you have questions or concerns
about your child's progress - whether you get a report or not - please feel
free to call your child's teacher or schedule a conference. Your parental
support is the key to the success at Chaires Elementary School!

February is Black History Month! Ask your child what type of activities
they are doing in order to learn more and celebrate black history and
heritage. Mrs. Kilpatrick is working hard with our second graders to
prepare our Black History Program which will take place on Wednesday,
February 22nd at 8:15 and 9:30 in the Chaires cafeteria. (We will not have
an evening performance, so parents are encouraged to plan to attend in the
morning. We will have seating for parents available.)

REGULAR ATTENDANCE CAN RAISE TEST SCORES
It seems obvious to say that kids need to be in school to learn. But
research shows just how important it is. On state tests, kids who were in
school most did the best. Children who came to school 93 percent of the
time outscored everyone else. When kids missed even a few more days, their
scores went down.

PTO NEWS
Don't forget to send in your Spring Festival Committee Sign-Up forms. We
need your help to make the festival a success. The festival is planned for
April 22, 2006 and will be here before we know it. This event not only
raises money for our school, but it brings family and friends together for
lots of fun. If you have any questions feel free to call Leigh Anne Chapman
at 309-7733.
McCASKILL'S CORNER
Parents, I would like to stress the importance of your children coming to
school everyday, being on time and participating in class. Also, as a
reminder, students should be dropped off in the back of the school. We are
experiencing a heavy flow of parents dropping students off in the front
parking lot each morning. We are committed to keeping your children as
safe as possible and in doing so, we have designated the back of the school
for you to drop off and pick up your children. Thank you for your
assistance and cooperation in this matter.
FCAT Writing+ for 4th graders will be given February 7th (Essay) and
February 8 (Multiple Choice). The 3rd administration of the Writes Upon
Request (WUR) will be administered for grades 1-5 during the week of
February 6-10, 2006. The 3rd administration of DIBELS will begin February
7, 2006. Have a Great Weekend!

Reading Daily Pays Off
One of the best ways to help your child succeed in school is to read
together every day. You don't even have to read the same thing. Just
designate as little as 10 minutes a day as "Family Reading Time." It can
make an enormous difference in your child's learning.

SPRING PICTURE DAY
Spring picture order forms were sent home today with the students. The
background will be lakeview. Picture Day is Wednesday, February 15th and
they are prepaid. Students need to hand the payment envelope to the
photographer at the time of their sitting. Extra order forms are available
in the front office.

YEARBOOK PRE ORDERS
We have sent home order forms for the 2005-2006 Chaires Elementary
Yearbook. A limited number of yearbooks have been ordered so reserve yours
now. They are available on a first come first serve basis. The cost is
$17.00. Checks need to be made out to Leonards.
