PRINCIPAL’S PAWS
Wow! The Family Science Night put on by FSU was spectacular! We had about
40 families who came out and did hands-on experiments last night. All of
the children received a homework pass - but I'm sure most of them will come
with homework in hand anyway! This event was so exciting and the projects
were of such original quality, we're working with FSU to put on this hands-
on Science Night in the FALL next year. I think it will really spark some
young minds and help them to begin thinking ahead!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
There aren’t enough words to express our thanks to ALL of the wonderful
volunteers who made the Spring Festival the most successful one in at least
5 years. Together we do make a difference!

MS. HOPE’S CORNER
The fifth graders will be going to either Fairview or Swift Creek on
Tuesday, April 27, 2004. Parents of fifth graders need to make sure that we
have your correct address to insure that course request information is
forwarded to the correct middle school. I am striving for "the right
school" and "the right courses selected" and need your help. It is
important that students get off to a great start in middle school. Their
first day "impression" is crucial to how well they make the transition.
Therefore, if you have questions, please call before school is out and/or
check with your feeder school over the summer. Also, as we approach the end
of the school year, parents need to be aware that we have "MANY" items of
clothing in our lost and found that have not been claimed. Please encourage
your child(ren) to see if any of these items belong to them. Finally, if
you did not attend the Spring Festival, you missed a fun filled activity.
Our PTO, volunteers, teachers and staff are to be commended for their hard
work and anyone else who contributed to make this event a huge success.

SCIENCE FAIR
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Science Fair on
Tuesday. The following students have been selected to represent Chaires at
the Mary Brogan Museum of Arts & Sciences on May 1st, 2004 from 10:00am-
2:00pm for the Leon County Science Expo: Krystena Hutchins, Tyler Cole,
Seth Garrett, Todd Jones, Candace Daymond, Tommy Bivens, Celine Burton,
Sean Allen, Frankie Richardson, Erin Titus, Lillian Sander, and Jessica
Chorpening. TOTALLY PAWSOME!
Ms. Koenig sends her thanks for all the paper tubes and water bottles. She
now has more than enough for her experiment.

SUMMER CAMP ENROLLMENT
Come and join the Chaires Summer Fun Camp for an exciting 10 weeks of
fieldtrips, special events, and weekly themes. We are accepting incoming
Kindergartener’s through 5th graders. Call Cathy Davis at 922-2866 for
more information or to get a registration packet. Hurry! Limited
enrollment. First come, first serve.

MAD SCIENCE
The world’s leading provider of hands-on science activities for children is
coming to the Chaires Elementary Extended Day Enrichment Program. Starting
May 5th, 2004 children will have the opportunity to touch, feel, and taste
what science is really all about through a three week program. Children
will build rockets, make indoor lighting, and learn why airplanes fly,
volcanoes erupt and much more with Mad Science. For more information
about Mad Science of Tallahassee, visit their website at
www.madscience.org/tallahassee or by phone at 383-9143.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION
All children attending kindergarten in August of 2004 and their parents are
invited to our Kindergarten Orientation on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 8:00am
in the Cafeteria. We will have a short presentation from the schools’
administration, guidance counselor, PTO representative and a Kindergarten
Teacher. The presentation will be followed by a guided tour of the
Kindergarten classrooms. This will be a good time for you and your child
to get a feel for what Kindergarten at Chaires is all about. Registration
packets will be available. We look forward to your visit!

PROGRAM CHANGE
The 5th grade program and 4th grade recorder group performance has been
