PRINCIPAL'S PAWSE
As you know, fuel costs are on the rise! We, at Chaires, will not be
taking incentive trips unless there is a viable educational component
directly related to the classroom studies. I want to assure you that we
will continue to provide your child with educationally relevant field trip
opportunities, despite the rising costs. (Some teams are getting creative
in order to provide "in school field trips" for their students, as well!)
As our School Based Decision Making Council has come to a decision on a
field trip policy that is age appropriate, I wanted to be sure that
everyone knew our school guidelines. If you have any questions or input,
please feel free to contact me. Our new policy is in effect for the 2005-
2006 school year.

School-wide Special Activity/Field Trip Policy
„X Special activities and field trips must be earned by each child through
positive interactions at school and on the school bus on a regular basis.
„X Students cannot have a bus referral or a disciplinary referral in the
same 9 week grading period as a special activity or field trip (or four
weeks prior to an event that takes place early in a grading period.)
„X Each nine week grading period will begin a ¡§clean slate¡¨ for students
who
have received bus or disciplinary referrals that did NOT result in
suspension.
„X Any disciplinary referrals resulting in a suspension will result in no
more field trips for the school year.
„X Any class three offenses on a school bus or disciplinary referrals will
result in revocation of all field trips for the remainder of the school
year.
„X Field trip funds are used for buses and admission at the time of
planning
a trip; field trip refunds are not available.
„X Any child ineligible to attend a field trip is still required to attend
school. The child will receive their work for the day and be placed in an
alternate classroom to complete their assigned work. Non attendance on a
field trip day is considered an unexcused absence.
„X Students signing out early to go home after a field trip will have an
unexcused ¡§leaving early¡¨ for the day. This will negatively impact
attendance honor roll eligibility. (This is in accordance with the Leon
County Schools Attendance Policy.)

Additional Special Activity/Field Trip Criteria:
Kindergarten & First Grade
„X Students who have received one referral during the nine week grading
period will be offered an opportunity to attend a field trip if, and only
if, a parent or legal guardian will accompany the child on the trip. If a
parent/guardian is unable or chooses not to attend, the child will stay at
school in a different classroom.
„X If a child receives a second referral within a grading period, they are
no longer eligible to attend.

Second Grade
„X Class work and homework must be consistently completed and turned in on
time.

Third, Fourth & Fifth Grade
„X Class work and homework must be consistently completed and turned in on
time. Students must have E¡¦s and S¡¦s in behavior/work study habits
within
the 9 week period of the field trip or activity

MCCASKILLS CORNER
The first nine weeks has ended and it was great! Let¡¦s make the second
nine weeks better that the first. Our kids are doing a really good job
with our rules. We still have some of our kids running. We ask that the
parents remind them that they should walk. Reading is so important. Read
with your children every day. Please continue to check the planners for
very important information coming from your child¡¦s teacher. Don¡¦t
forget
our Field Day. We really need a lot of parents to help. ¡§Be one who says
positive things about others.¡¨ Have a Great Weekend!

3rd GRADE PROGRAM AND SUPPER
Please join us in the Cafeteria on Tuesday, October 25 at 5:00pm for a
Pizza Supper followed by the 3rd Grade program at 6:00pm. A slice of pizza
is $1.00 and drinks are $.50. The Book Fair will also be open from 5:00pm-
7:00pm in the Media Center. Hope to see you there.

Kids Carnival Day at FSU
Coming up on October 30th, 2005 the FSU Athletic Marketing department will
be having a ¡§Kids Carnival Day¡¨ at the volleyball game against Maryland.
The game is at 1pm in Tully Gym and admission is FREE! Some of the
exciting events taking place are a live performance from the FSU Circus,
face painting by the Lady Spirithunters, free popcorn for the first 100
kids, and a Halloween costume contest. Free cheer cards will be given away
to the first 500 fans courtesy of SunSports. If you have any questions,
feel free to contact Lindsey Rector at (850) 645-4851. Thank you for your
support of Seminole Athletics. Go ¡¥Noles!

FIELD DAY
Field Day will be held on November 10th. Parents, we need you to send in a
plain white t-shirt for your child if possible, to be tie-dyed. The class
will decide what color to dye their shirts. Then a class parent will tie-
dye the shirts for the class. PTO will reimburse the parent who purchases
the dye as long as they save the receipt. (Please, RIT dye only. No
special/fancy kits.) It is important that every child has a shirt, so if
anyone would like to donate an extra white t-shirt that would be greatly
appreciated.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with an X indicate that we will be seeking
parent volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact
the front office by calling 878-8534.
