PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Our fourth graders did a fabulous job of putting forth their best effort on
their FCAT Writing Plus tests this week. Way to go! I know that students
in grades 1, 2, 3, and 5 also worked hard on their Writes Upon Request
prompts, too. Please check your child's backpack to see if they received a
progress alert on Thursday this week. With your help, it's our goal to
help your child continue to do their best so that when their report cards
come out it reflects their true ability.
I'd like to personally invite all of the parents, family members,
and community members who serve as volunteers or mentors with Chaires
Elementary School to attend our annual appreciation breakfast on Tuesday,
February 14th from 7:15-7:45 a.m. in the Media Center. Each of the faculty
and staff members want you to know how much we truly appreciate all you do
to help us and our children succeed! Please stop by before work on Tuesday
and enjoy a celebration of your efforts with us.

Project Boards for Sale
The PTO is selling Project Boards this year for $5.00. We also have
project board headers for sale for $2.00. The header is used to hold the
board open and you can put the title of your project on it. Stop by the
front office to make your purchase.

PE NEWS
The students have been doing a great job building up their endurance for
the walkathon on Feb. 23rd. (Thurs.) Parents, can you please help your
children find at least three sponsors for this event. The sponsors would
pledge an amount of money for each lap that the child completes on the day
of the walkathon. All parents and family members are invited to come and
walk with their child during Special Area time at the walkathon. I am also
looking for parent volunteers to help with the set up, the drink table and
to give out the stickers to mark laps. Please e-mail me,
[log in to unmask] or call the school if you are available to
help. Thanks for your support!!

McCASKILL'S CORNER
FCAT Practice Tests will be administered during the week of February 13-17,
2006. Students should bring them home the following week. Please go over
the tests with your children. It is very important to encourage your child
to keep his/her confidence and goals very high in all academic areas all
during the school year. DIBELS testing is still going on. It will end on
February 21.
Our students are doing a great job following the rules of the school and
classroom. I want to remind all parents and guardians to please drop your
child off in the back of the school before school and pick them up after
school in the back. I thank all of the parents for assisting us with this
safety issue. Have a Great Weekend, stay warm and dry!

Parisian Discount Ticket Sale
The PTO is selling discount tickets for Parisian at $5.00 each. You get a
20% discount on February 25, 2006. The tickets are available in the front
office. Limited amounts available.

Breakfast First
It's true-kids need breakfast to jumpstart their day! Breakfast keeps kids
on target for meeting their nutrient needs and for being ready to learn.
Research shows:
• A nutritious breakfast from the Five Food Groups provides children
with about one-fourth of their daily nutrient requirements. Kids who eat
breakfast are more likely to meet these needs.
• Breakfast skippers are less likely to make up for nutrients they
miss at breakfast later in the day.
• When children eat breakfast, it's easier for them to concentrate on
learning, think clearly and be on their best behavior.
These breakfasts take less than 3 minutes to prepare and include at least
three of the Five Food Groups.
Peanut butter, toasted English muffin, glass of milk
Cold cereal, milk, banana
Heated leftover cheese pizza
Orange wedges, crackers, cheese
Wheat toast, yogurt, apple
Ham & Cheese sandwich, glass of chocolate milk
Heated leftover macaroni and cheese, apple
Instant oatmeal, canned peaches, milk
Baby carrots, bagel, mozzarella cheese stick
Tomato soup made with milk, crackers
