PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
The time is quickly approaching . . . the first of our FCAT testing will
begin next week with our fourth graders (only) taking their FCAT Writing
test on Tuesday and FCAT Writing Plus test on Wednesday. All other
students in grades 1, 2, 3, and 5 will be taking the Writes Upon Request
test, as well. It is very important, especially on the days of tests that
students come to school on time, well-rested, and prepared! We have worked
hard all year to be sure they are prepared. We are counting on your help
to make sure that they get a good night’s sleep the night before the test,
get a good breakfast on the morning of the test, and get to school (or the
bus stop) on time! As a team, we will show that Chaires students can
shine! Because of the testing next week, our progress alert date has been
changed. Any students who are falling behind in their work or need to
improve in the behavior will receive progress alerts on Thursday next
week. Please be sure to look over the alert, sign it, send it back to the
teacher and plan to help your child work extra hard to improve in the noted
areas prior to report card time.

MRS. MCCASKILL’S CORNER
We had a great turn out for our first FCAT Saturday for this year. If you
signed for your child to attend and for some reason they are unable to
come, please inform us. Our starting time is 9:00 a.m. and we end promptly
at 11:00 a.m. Parents, please make sure that our boys and girls arrive on
time to school. We will start our testing on Tuesday, February 8, 2005.
The 1st and 2nd graders will take the Writes Upon Request on Wednesday,
February 9, 2005 and the 3rd and 5th graders will take the Writes Upon
Request on Thursday, February 10, 2005. All of our 4th graders will take
the FCAT Writing+ on Tuesday, February 8 and Wednesday, February 9, 2005.
We know that our boys and girls will do a fine job on all of the tests.

GALACTIC-LIBRARY
Did you know a galaxy of reading adventures awaits your child? The FCAT
Explorer program Galactic Library: 3rd Grade Reading was created by the
Department of Education with your child in mind. Developed with help from
Florida teachers, Galactic Library offers reading practice to improve your
child’s reading skills. Based on Florida’s Sunshine State Standards, all
FCAT explorer programs, including Galactic Library, are free for public
school children and their parents. FCAT Explorer can be used at home or at
the library-wherever there is a computer with Internet access. Galactic
Library includes vocabulary activities, word pronunciation, and over 400
FCAT-like practice questions. Galactic Library lets students get
comfortable with reading comprehension questions in a supportive and fun
format. Your child can begin using the Galactic Library: 3rd Grade Reading
program today. To get your child’s sign-in name and password, call the
FCAT Explorer support team toll-free at 1-888-750-3228.

Attention Volunteers!!!!!!
Painters needed to help the 5th graders "Trade Spaces"
The first step in any good painting project is the primer. Because we are
painting the restrooms, the primer is very strong and also comes with a
down side, FUMES. As our wonderful students are still developing their
brain cells, I'm not willing to risk their health. This paint is safe and
should not be a problem for adults. The students will be applying the top
layers of latex for the murals the following week. We will also need some
volunteers for the next few Saturday's, to supervise our young artists. We
will be priming on Saturday, February 12 after FCAT review, at 12:00pm and
could use your help. Wear your grubby clothes and head protection, as we
will be painting the ceilings also. Come and join the painting party!

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with an X indicate that we will be seeking
parent volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact
the front office by calling 878-8534.
