PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Please plan to join us for our upcoming events! Our Fifth Grade Honors
Chorus will perform on Saturday, March 12th starting at 7:00 p.m. in Lee
Hall Auditorium at Florida A & M University. Then, our first graders will
perform on Tuesday, March 15th at 8:00 and 9:15 a.m. in the Chaires
Cafeteria. Since they are young, we don’t do an evening performance.
Instead, we’ll set up a section of special seating for parents that want to
join us for the performances. Also, on Tuesday, we’ll have Skate Night!
What a great way to meet the children in your child’s class and get to know
their parents, too. We hope to see you there!

MRS. MCCASKILL’S CORNER
I know that all of our third, fourth, and especially fifth grade students,
parents and teachers are glad that we are “FINISHED with the FCAT!”
Special thanks go out to all of the parents who got the kids to school well-
rested, fed and on time. We know the children worked hard and did their
best. Let’s remind children that just because the testing is over it
doesn’t mean that school is over! Our third, fourth and fifth grade
students will still need to continue to work hard in class since their
class grades and demonstration of mastery of grade level benchmarks is ALSO
a promotion criteria.
Good news for the parents of first and second graders on the testing
front! Our SAT/9 testing will take place on the Tuesday and Wednesday
following spring break. We are so excited that the children will only be
taking TWO subtests this year – the two are used to help with promotion
decisions – reading comprehension (a 40 minute test) and math concepts and
skills (a 50 minute test). The children have been learning the necessary
skills all year. And, during the second semester, they’ve been learning
about the format of the test so we KNOW they’re prepared.

National Nutrition Month
Tallahassee Dietetic Association has partnered with Leon County Schools to
promote Healthy Eating and Active Living during March, National Nutrition
Month. The Tallahassee Dietetic Association will be presenting a parent
power point presentation for nutrition education, children’s physical
activities and parent/child nutrition activities with taste testing
giveaways and prizes at selected school sites. The event is scheduled for
approximately 1 hour. Everyone is invited to attend and encouraged to
bring all family members. Please select a school site nearest you! For
more information, please contact Lorri Pilkington at Health Services 487-
6380.
