PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
I'm amazed at how quickly this school year is whizzing by us! Just eight
more weeks of school before summer vacation begins. We appreciate your
support in helping to keep the children on track and learning each and
every day of the school year! Our third nine week report cards will be
going home on Wednesday next week. We'll be holding our honor roll
assemblies on Friday, April 7th to recognize children who have earned top
honors for attendance, improvement, behavior/work study/effort and
participation, and top grades with behavior/work study/effort and
participation. We love it when parents are able to join us when we
recognize children for their hard work and improvements!
We need your help in a couple of areas:
1. We appreciate all of the parents who drop their children off in the car
drop off area at the back of the school. This is the safest way for our
car riders to arrive on campus. However, if you park in a volunteer spot
when you have a conference, please be sure to walk your child across the
street. For their safety, we don't allow car drop off without direct
supervision at the front of the school. Because our parking is so limited,
we encourage ALL parents to use the car drop off area at the back of the
school unless you have a meeting or conference to attend.
2. We realize that you may need to inform your child of changes in their
afternoon transportation from time to time. When we receive your call, we
write the information on a list and from 1:30-1:45 we deliver all
transportation changes to classes over the intercom. (We try not to
interrupt instruction during the school day. Also, we want to be sure that
the information is fresh in your child's mind so they don't forget.) The
problem that we run into is when we begin to get calls at 1:30. We need
for all transportation change calls to be made BEFORE 1:30 so that we can
be sure that each child gets their message.
3. Spring Festival is right around the corner. Please be watching your
child's backpack for information on volunteering, purchasing tickets,
donating items for the class basket, signing up for the run, etc. This is
a FUN event and we hope that everyone will be able to join us on Saturday,
April 22nd for an exciting and fun-filled day.

Spring Ahead
Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday April, 2, 2006. Remember to set
your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed on Saturday.

McCASKILL'S CORNER
Welcome back! We are glad to have all of our boys and girls back with us.
The 1st and 2nd grade students are continuing to practice for the SAT/10
test. If you did not get an opportunity to review the SAT/10 Practice Test
with your child over the Spring Break, please do so over the weekend. The
SAT/10 Test will be administered to our 1st and 2nd graders on April 4-5
and make-ups will be given April 6-7. Make sure they get plenty of rest.
As we finish our last 9 weeks of study, we want our boys and girls to
continue to focus and to give it all they have. There is a lot more to
learn. "Each student is a unique person and a powerful learner capable of
great achievements." (Michele Forman-American National Teacher of the Year
2001). Have a great weekend!

Media News
We're excited that Adrian Fogelin, local author, will be visiting Chaires
on Wednesday, April 5th to discuss her books with the 4th and 5th graders!

SCIENCE FAIR NEWS
The Chaires Science Fair will be held Monday and Tuesday, April 24th and
25th this year. All 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be required to
participate. Kindergarteners, 1st and 2nd graders may choose to
participate. Any student can get a Science Fair packet from the front
office or Mrs. Perez. You can access our school's website for Science
links, and many useful ideas at http//www.chaires.leon.k12.fl.us

Project Keyboard
Our Music Department is very excited about starting a keyboard lab for our
kindergarten through fifth grade students. This will be an enrichment many
of our students would never have the opportunity to experience if it wasn't
offered at our school. The cost of the keyboard lab is $4500.00. We would
like to invite you to help sponsor us with a contribution to this very
worthwhile project. Please make checks payable to Chaires Elementary
School. Look for the Keyboard posters around the school to see our
progress. So far we have raised $1700.00.
Upcoming Events!

Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with an X indicate that we will be seeking
parent volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact
the front office by calling 878-8534.
