1. Welcome & Review the Minutes from the 9/12/06 meeting: Christi

Minutes reviewed and accepted as written.
2. Reports: Christi Moss, Principal and Michael Barrett, SAC
Chair
A. There was no report from our DAC representative this month.
B. The School Improvement Plan budget is $7114.50. The committee
decided to split the budget using half of the funds for test prep
materials and the other half for staff development.
C. Chaires is an "A" school again this year. The staff and
faculty have recommended that we disburse the School Recognition
Funds by using all of it for staff and faculty bonuses. Faculty will
receive a 66% share and staff will receive 33% share. After
reviewing the ballot that staff and faculty used, the SAC committee
accepted their proposal.
D. The SAC committee reviewed the 3 proposed 2007-2008 school
calendars and will recommend the calendar C to the District Advisory
Council.
E. The minor bus accident that took place on September 25 in the
front of the school was reviewed and discussed. All SAC members and
many parents agreed that the message Christi sent out on the emergency
call system was appreciated.
F. Two more parents were elected to the SAC committee, Donna Lewis
and Margaret Guimaraes.
G. Christi received word last week that we will not have to go
through the accreditation process at Chaires. The district has decided
to do a district wide accreditation process.
H. PTO has done a great job supporting the school by purchasing
new science materials for 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade classrooms. The current
fundraiser is with The Coffee Beanery.
3. School Concerns: Christi Moss, Principal & Michael Barrett, SAC
Chair
A. Our new Safety Patrol has helped the traffic flow immensely.
Thanks to Mary Barber for leading the program for Chaires.
B. Over all security of campus was discussed. Since the tragedy
of Sept 11th we have had teachers keep the classroom doors locked.
We also use the Raptor System to check for Sexual Predators.
C. Claire Olson is concerned about the amount of sugary snacks
that are brought into the classrooms for parties and celebrations.
Claire will start up a sub-committee to research and create a nutrition
policy for Chaires.
4. New Business: Michael Barrett, SAC Chair
Michael Barrett has requested that a representative of the
School's Safety committee provide a monthly status report to the SAC of
concerns received and/or addressed. At this time we are having the fence
at Chaires East repaired and flood lighting will be installed for the
Chaires East playground. The main concern for the school is lighting
on all of our playgrounds. This issue will be brought before the
District Advisory Council.
