PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
I’m very proud of all of the students for doing such a fine job during the
first two weeks of school. Everything has gone so smoothly! I’m
especially impressed with the terrific job the students did on the first
TWO fire drills of the school year! Way to go!

MRS. OLK’S CORNER
The beginning two weeks of school have gone incredibly well (despite no air
conditioning on a couple of days!!). Bus dismissal has been
wonderful….thanks to the help of several very responsible fifth grade
students. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following
students for all of their help in getting our new kindergarten students to
the correct buses in the afternoon: Tyler Gilbert, Shayla Hampton, Devin
Demirpolat, Candace Norton, Alexis Hayes, Melanie Perez, Candace Daymond,
Nathaniel Harris, Eric Hague and Michael Manuel. Great job, boys and girls!

Oops! Open House September 22nd
Sorry for the error in the last newsletter. The Open House will take place
on Monday, September 22nd from 6:00-7:00 p.m. We will start the evening by
holding a brief meeting in the cafeteria at 6:00 including School Advisory
Council elections, followed by classroom visitations until 7:00 p.m.

Labor Day Holiday on Monday
Please remember that school will be closed on Monday for Labor Day. We
will resume our regular schedule on Tuesday, September 2nd.

First Skate Night of the Year
Make it a family night! On the first Tuesday of each month, we hold the
Chaires Elementary School Skate Night at Skate World on Capital Circle.
This is a fun time for the kids to skate with their friends. The evening
includes skating, games (races, limbo), dancing (the Hokey Pokey and
Chicken Dance), and fun! It’s also a great time to meet other Chaires
parents.

CAR RIDERS NEED SIGNS
If you have a couple of moments and a big fat marker, please make a large,
legible sign with your child’s first and last name to place in the front
passenger window of your car. When you pull up in the afternoon, this will
help speed up the loading process. Special thanks to those parents,
students and teachers who have already made signs!

JOIN THE CHAIRES LIST SERVE
Would you like to receive this weekly newsletter via email? We have a list
serve for anyone interested in receiving the newsletter, meeting reminders,
and volunteer requests via email! Visit www.chaires.leon.k12.fl.us in
order to sign up!

Car Safety
As a courtesy to parents, we will assist students in loading by opening car
doors. Please be advised that it is the driver’s responsibility to make
sure that the children are fastened securely in a car seat or with a seat
belt in accordance with the law.

Guidance Offers Group Sessions
The guidance department will be offering support groups for students whose
parents are separated or divorced and a group for students who have
experienced the death of a loved one. The divorce group is open only to
students who have not already participated in this type of group at
school. If you would like your student to participate, please fill out the
form on the back page of the newsletter and return to your child's teacher
or the guidance office. If you have questions, please contact Fran Lewis,
878-8534 or [log in to unmask]

Teachers Receive Pedometers
You may have heard about this on the news earlier this week. Mrs. Padgett,
Coach Hawkins, and Mrs. Moss have received 135 pedometers to use with
students, faculty and staff members. Our goal is to help students and
staff members monitor their level of activity and set goals to increase
activity levels from one week or month to the next. Did you know that
walking around the outside sidewalk of the school three times equals one
mile?

Attention F.A.M.U & U.F. fans
The Chaires PTO has rattler strike t-shirts, as well as growling gator
shirts available for order through Humanitees. Black shirts with two-sided
pose (front/back) of striking rattler or gator are available in child sizes
for $17, XX for $18, and XXX for $19. Photos of the shirts and order forms
are available in the front office.

FREE Workshops for Parents
The FSU Multidisciplinary Consultation and Evaluation Center and Children’s
Medical Services are co-sponsoring a workshop for parents entitled Defiant
Children – Behavioral Strategies that Work!!! This series of four free
parent-training workshops is designed to teach behavior management
strategies to the parents of children ages 2-12 who demonstrate problems
with defiance and authority. If interested, please contact Liz Lewis at
487-2604 for more information.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
