improve. I would like to ask that the speed limit and designated parent
parking area be observed. Our boys and girls are doing a great job in
following directions while waiting for you to pick them up. The ESI-K and
DIBELS will end on September 23, 2005. “CELEBRATE SUCCESS”. Have a great

FAMILY DAY
Governor Jeb Bush has declared Monday, September 26, as Family Day – A Day
to Eat Dinner with Your Children. This event is aimed at promoting the
value of family interaction as a means of preventing and reducing substance
abuse among young people. All schools are encouraged to participate in
Family Day by not scheduling any extracurricular activities or events that
evening that may preclude students and their families from taking part.
Please assist in getting the word out about Family Day - - via school
calendars, websites, newsletters, marquees, and/or other creative ways.
The well-being of our children and families is critical to the vitality and
welfare of our communities. It is incumbent upon us as leaders and role
models to promote such worthy efforts. While having dinner with your
family one day a year may not change a child forever, it certainly is a
start. By promoting Family Day, you are helping to raise awareness of the
impact this can have on a child’s life. Supporting material about Family
Day, and the important role it can play in the lives of Florida families,
can be found on the Family Day website at www.floridafamilyday.com .
Please review this information to learn more about Family Day and how
parents can get involved. Feel free to contact the Department of
Education’s Office of Safe and Healthy Schools at 850-245-0749 for
additional information. Thank you.

TEACHER PLANNING DAY
The Chaires Extended Day Program will offer a Teacher Planning Day
fieldtrip to "Fun Station" on Friday, October 14, 2005 from 7:00am-
6:00pm. Registration forms will be available September 26th.
Register Soon!!! Only 65 students can attend. Call 922-2866 for more
information. Cost for the day is $27.00. Check or money order payable to
Leon County Schools. First come first serve.

FIELD DAY
Field Day will be held on November 10th. Parents, we need you to send in a
plain white t-shirt for your child if possible, to be tie-dyed. The class
will decide what color to dye their shirts. Then a class parent will tie-
dye the shirts for the class. PTO will reimburse the parent who purchases
the dye as long as they save the receipt. (Please, RIT dye only. No
special/fancy kits.) It is important that every child has a shirt, so if
anyone would like to donate and extra whit t-shirt, that would be greatly
appreciated.

Good News At Chaires

Spirit Stick Award
Congratulations to the following most "Spirited" classes for the week of
September 19th: Mrs. Stockton, Mrs. Padgett, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Shaner,
Mrs. Huston, and Mrs. Horne and Ms. Stone. These classes had the most
students in their grade level wearing purple and gold.

Art Room News
Thank you to everyone who brought in egg cartons. Soon the third grade
will be using them for palettes while we paint the Egyptian banners for the
upcoming play. We also need 300, 12" X 18" sheets of corrugated cardboard
for the fourth and fifth graders to make sketchbooks. We can get large
appliance boxes for free, but I need volunteers to cut them up. This is a
great project if you cannot volunteer during school hours. The fifth grade
is starting a new project studying advertising and marketing with a program
called "The Artful Truth". We will learn how companies, including tobacco
companies use deceptive advertising to influence us into buying their
products. For this project the art room needs old magazines to cut and
make collages. Please send only magazines with words and images
appropriate for elementary school students. In this case tobacco
advertisements are appropriate.

Good News
Girl Scout Troop 106 and their families participated in the Coastal Clean-
up this past weekend. They had a great time together and also raised
$140.00 for the troop. Nice work girls!
