PRINCIPAL¡¦S PAWS
With the Labor Day Holiday and Hurricane Frances clean-up day, this has
been a quick week. I¡¦m glad that I was able to come to the school on
Tuesday, before the children and staff returned, in order to make sure that
the school fared well during the hurricane. It really gave the Leon County
School Maintenance Department a lot of work in a short amount of time ¡V
serving 46 schools (and additional offices, warehouses, and bus compounds),
but our first goal is YOUR CHILD¡¦S SAFETY! We were lucky this time!
I¡¦d like to remind parents, business and community members to join us for
our first School Advisory Council meeting of the year ¡V Monday, September
13th at 5:30 in the Media Center. We need your help to continue on our
path toward excellence!

MRS. MCCASKILL¡¦S CORNER
Whew! We made it through Hurricane Frances with minimal damage. (Let¡¦s
hope we¡¦re as lucky with Ivan.) We did have some of the vinyl siding under
the walkway ceilings that came out, a few wet/damaged ceiling tiles and
some limbs down. And, because the electricity was out, we lost all of the
ice cream in the cafeteria. Would you believe that we had more damage from
vandalism than we did from the hurricane? I am sad to share that we had
two of our classroom portables vandalized over the long weekend. Our
vandals stole food, drinks, disposable cameras and a teacher bag to carry
their loot. In addition, they poured liquid soap all over one classroom,
including student desks, the teacher desk, and a computer. We need your
help in solving this crime! If you have any information regarding this
matter, please feel free to call me. Or, you can call Deputy John Rudd at
921-3601. In the future, if you come to the school over the weekend to
ride your bike or visit the playgrounds, we would really appreciate it if
you would call in any suspicious activity to the Leon County Sheriff¡¦s
Office. Thanks for YOUR HELP in keeping our school safe and secure for our
children.

Nutrition Tip of the Week
Water is the best beverage. It has no calories. It quenches thirst better
than any other drink. A well hydrated person thinks better, looks better,
and feels better. If you drank a 12-ounce bottle of water instead of juice
or soda each day this could save at least 4,500 calories in a month.
That¡¦s nearly 6 cups of sugar!!!

Bus Safety
While statistics show that riding the bus is the safest way to get to
school, dangerous situations could occur if children don¡¦t follow school
bus safety rules and procedures. Here are some general tips for helping
students remain safe on the bus. Insist that your children be courteous
and use their manners when it comes to getting on and off the bus. They
should wait their turn to board, never push or shove on the stairs and find
your seat quickly and stay in it. While children are waiting for the bus,
they should stay out of the street, watch for cars and should avoid running
to the bus stop. We hope these tips will keep you safe on the bus.
