PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
We've had a great second week at Chaires Elementary School! I'd like to
apologize for an oversight on my part. I would like to welcome, Mrs. Susan
Hall, second grade teacher who is new to Chaires this year. We're so glad
that you are part of the team (and I'm so sorry I didn't include you in
last week's newsletter!)
I want to let parents know about some increased security measures for
school volunteers and mentors this school year. ALL volunteers must
complete a volunteer form that is then screened in the FDLE and Dept. of
Justice Sexual Predator Databases before going into any classroom. This
includes parents who have volunteered in the past, those chaperoning field
trips, and stuffing Friday folders. We're getting pretty quick at checking
the databases so that you can go into the classroom the day you fill out
your form, but please be sure to do so. In addition to the database
checks, our mentors who work one-on-one with children will be required to
be finger printed this year. All of these measures are for the safety of
your child and we want you to know that we take your child's safety
seriously!

CHALLENGER CENTER
The Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee is having a Back 2 School
event on Saturday August 27th, 2005 from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm. We will be
offering our lowest prices EVER to the IMAX© theatre and the Planetarium.
There will also be technology demonstrations from Microsoft and Nextel,
Robotics from the College of Engineering, demonstrations from the Hobby
shop and Seminole RC Club, hands-on activities and demonstrations from the
FSU Physics Department, Space Mission simulations and more!

KINDERGARTEN REQUEST
Our Kindergarten teachers are in need of a full size refrigerator. This
would enable the entire team to keep snacks and treats cold or frozen. You
can call the front office at 878-8534.

MCCASKILLS CORNER
Parents, we have completed our second week of the 2005/2006 Academic School
Year at Chaires Elementary. I would like to welcome all of our new and
returning students. I know we are going to have a great year. I would
like to remind our students and parents that:
1)  Our school supervision starts at 7:00 a.m.;
2) Students should not be dropped off in the front of the school
before 7:00a.m., or at anytime. Student drop off is in the back of the
school.
3) We would like to ask parents not to check your child out of school
after 1:30 p.m., unless it is an emergency.
4) We encourage all students to arrive to school on time each day. We
appreciate your strong support.

GUIDANCE NEWS
Hello Panther Families and Friends. Please allow me to introduce myself. I
am Mrs. Carolyn Jones, Guidance Counselor for Chaires. This is my 25th year
of working and learning in Leon County. As the school's Guidance Counselor,
I am here to work with students, families, faculty, staff and the
community. Working together this year, I am "Positive" that our children
will continue to grow and glow. Below are a few tidbits for continuing
positively on the Panther Trail.
A Great School Year involves:
* Meeting and working with your child's teachers.
* Having and using routines for your child. Being consistent helps so much.
* Setting high expectations. Tell your child that she / he doesn't have to
be the best, but that they should do their best.
* Reading, reading, reading with and to your child. If possible, set a
daily family reading time.
* Support the school. Attend activities, meetings and conferences. Show
your child that school is a family priority.

Please feel free to contact me at the school if I can be of service to your
child and / or family. My number here at school is 878 -8534, ext.231. I am
here from 7:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday or you can e-mail me
at [log in to unmask] Thank you in advance for your
support.
"Children are ours but for a moment, let us give them our best."
