PRINCIPAL’S PAWS
Although the FCAT test is only taken by students in grades 3, 4, & 5, we
have had to change many schedules in order to accommodate a positive and
conducive test environment.  Please note the following schedule changes
that will be in effect ONLY on March 1, 2, 3, & 10.

Special Area Times
7:50-8:35 First Grade
8:40-9:25 Second Grade
9:30-10:15 Kindergarten
10:25-11:10 Fifth Grade
11:50-12:35 Third Grade
12:40-1:25 Fourth Grade

Lunch Times
10:45-11:22 Fourth Grade
11:01-11:48 Third Grade
11:24-12:14 Kindergarten
11:48-12:29 First Grade
12:08-12:47 Second Grade
12:24-1:01 Fifth Grade

I would like to encourage the parents of all third, fourth, and fifth
graders to look carefully for the bright yellow flyer called the FCAT
Newsflash for additional information!

MS. HOPE’S CORNER
THIS IS A TEST!!!!!  WHAT IS MONDAY, MARCH 1, 2004?
Surely you know the answer. Monday, March 1st is the first day of FCAT
testing for the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Parents, please make sure that
your children have a good nights rest on Sunday and a nourishing breakfast
on Monday morning. A few words of encouragement would also go a long way.
Does this sound like a recipe of success to you? Well it is. Also add to
this - being to school on time on Monday. With all of the above, we are
destined to have a successful test week.

GREAT NEWS
We would like to congratulate Ms. Cathy Adams who has been nominated as the
Glenn Howell Distinguished Minority Educator of the Year Award winner for
Chaires Elementary School.  Be sure to stop by and give her a hug!

EXTENDED DAY NEWS
Join the Chaires Extended Day Enrichment Program for an exciting tour of
the FSU National High Magnetic Laboratory, on Friday, March 19th 2004
(teacher planning day).  Learn how magnets work, and other science facts.
Watch them make ice cream for all, using nitrogen!  Take a picnic lunch and
spend the afternoon bowling at the Crenshaw Lanes Bowling Alley.  Register
now for the Teacher Planning Day-Activity Day.  Hurry!  Limited
enrollment!  Check your child’s backpack for a registration form and more
information, or call Cathy Davis at 922-2866.

SUMMER ASTHMA CAMP
The American Lung Association of Florida, Inc., and The Boggy Creek Gang
Camp invite your child to attend the Summer Asthma Camp, June 19-25, 2004.
This exciting and unique camp is for children ages 7-16 with asthma who are
unable to attend other summer camps due to their illness.  The camp offers
traditional camp activities such as swimming, fishing, woodshop, theatre
archery, arts & crafts, and horseback riding.  Trained camp counselors keep
an eye on each camper 24 hours a day.   Boggy Creek Gang Camp offers a
fully equipped medical facility and staff, including doctors, nurses,
pharmacists and respiratory therapists who are prepared to handle
anything.  Boggy Creek Camp is located near Eustis, Florida.  Application
deadline is April 1, 2004.  Contact the American Lung Association at 386-
2065

FRIDAY FAMILY FUN NIGHT
Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee presents Leon County Schools
Friday Family Fun Night beginning February 27th and continuing through May
28th.  You can support your school by participating.  Purchase a combo
ticket including a planetarium show in the Digistar 3 Digital Space Theater
and an IMAX ticket and $1.00 for each ticket is sent back to your school.
Just tell the Challenger staff person when you purchase your ticket that
you are there for Leon County School’s “Family Fun Night”.  Also tell them
our school name so we can get credit for the number of people in your
party.  This is a great way to enjoy some family ”edutainment” and support
your school at the same time.   Tickets can be purchased at the box office
or by phone with a credit card at 645-7796.  Call the Challenger Learning
Center at 645-7827 (645-STAR) for more information.

If your child rides the bus and the bus has not arrived within 10 minutes

Good News At Chaires
Spirit Stick Award
Congratulations to the following most “Spirited” classes for the week of
February 20th: Mrs. Bist/Mrs. Goree,  Mrs. Padgett, Mrs. Adams, Mrs.
Shaner, Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Toner.  These classes had the most students in
their grade level wearing purple and gold.

Clinic Awards
Congratulations to our winning clinic award classes.  Mrs. Murphy’s class
won the Safety Award by having the least number of visits to the clinic for
accidents.  Mrs. Relken’s class won the Empty Cot Award for having the
fewest number of illness related clinic visits.  These classes enjoyed a
delicious cupcake party provided by Publix, one of our school partners.
