Sorry, I'm a bit late with this! -C

PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Wow! This has been an exciting week at Chaires Elementary School. We've
had our first nine weeks honor roll assemblies, the fifth grade spelling
bee, our popcorn party for fall fundraisers, and we've recognized our
Golden Spoon award winners for great lunchroom behavior during the month of
October! I'm proud of each student for their hard work, extra effort, and
kindness toward one another and I have encouraged all students to set a
goal for the second nine weeks grading period.
Now, we need to get parents and other friends to help for our festivities
next week! We've got cookie dough pick up (Tuesday), Patriotic Program
(Wednesday), our Fall Field Day and "A" School celebration (Thursday), and
Veteran's Day Holiday - no school (Friday). If you can volunteer to assist
with one or more of these events, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator,
Julie Sander by phone at 942-0312 (home) or leave a message at the school
office (878-8534) or by email at [log in to unmask] Thanks for
volunteering and helping to make these exciting events possible!

SPELLING BEE WINNERS
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 5th Grade Spelling Bee
on Wednesday. All the students did a wonderful job. This year's winner is
George Abboud and the runner-up is Jalen Rose who are both in Mrs.
Coleman's class. WAY TO GO!

Learning from your Mistakes
Successful people learn from their mistakes. They may have just as many
setbacks as others, but they don't see these as terrible. Instead, they
always try to learn something from them. Kids can develop that same
attitude. Here are some ways to help kids turn mistakes into learning
opportunities:
Make it a challenge. If your child misses a math problem, help
him/her see it as a puzzle to figure out. "Let's go back through the
problem. Show me how you got the answer."
Give your child permission to make a mistake. Some kids need
everything to be perfect. Choose small things at first. "Let's see what
happens if we add some peaches to this recipe." Maybe it'll taste great.
If it doesn't, you have something to laugh about.
Praise your child for effort. Help your child see that hard work
does lead to success.

MCCASKILLS CORNER
The Tallahassee Democrat is sponsoring a Holiday Essay Contest for grades 1-
