PRINCIPAL’S PAWS
The Chaires PTO would like to invite each and every parent of a current or
upcoming Chaires student to attend the year-end General Meeting and
recognition program on Tuesday, May 18th at 5:30 p.m. We will be holding
our general elections for PTO officers for the 2004-2005 school year. We
plan to have food, fun, childcare and fellowship. Please plan to join us!

MS. HOPE’S CORNER
As we near the end of the school year, it is vitally important that each
and every child behaves and participates appropriately in class and school
activities. In order to assist with maintaining an orderly and positive
learning environment, we will be instituting a strict discipline policy.
Any child who receives a referral for a suspendable offense will receive a
suspension for the remainder of the school year. We need your support in
making sure that we have a good end to the 2003-2004 school year.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Registration has now started for 2004-2005 Kindergarteners. Items needed
to register are: completed registration packet, physical form, shot record,
certified copy of birth certificate, copy of Social Security card and two
proofs of residency (current utility bill, lease/rental agreement, and
driver’s license). Office hours are 6:45am-3:15pm. Office hours for June
and July will be 6:45am-5:15pm Monday-Thursday.

ART NEWS
The third and fourth graders have been studying African Masks. They made
their masks out of cardboard and heavy duty foil. Then they decorated them
with markers, beads, raffia, and yarn. Each student also wrote a short
story about their mask. Many of the masks are being displayed at the
downtown Public Library and several are displayed in our Chaires hallways.
I am very proud of our students and their wonderful imaginations. Please
take a few minutes to look at the masks and read the stories. Some of the
fifth graders are studying an artist named Chuck Close. They drew self
portraits and wrote a paper on "Why I Am Unique." Some of these works are
also in the hallways. I am very proud of all our young artists.

STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS
Student Council kicks off their 2004-2005 Campaign Week next week! Third
and fourth grade students interested in holding an office in Student
Council will be campaigning the week of May 17-20. We will air their
speeches on the school-wide television system. Students will vote for
their new officers on Thursday, May 20 following morning announcements.
The results of the campaign will be announced on Friday, May 21. Let’s
encourage our participants as they seek to take on leadership roles.
This is a reminder for the current Student Council Officers and
Representatives. Student Council Appreciation field trip will be on
Tuesday, May 18. The students will be celebrating at Skate World and Pizza
Hut. Thanks for a great year; your hard work and dedication will be
missed. We are so proud of the wonderful activities and community service
that you provided for our school!

ATTENTION 5th Grade Parents
This is your last chance to get involved with the end-of-the-year
activities. We will meet on Tuesday, May 18th following the PTO meeting at
6:30. We will meet in Portable D (326) at the back of the school to
finalize our plans. Please plan to attend if you want to help. Also,
remember to send in your pictures. We certainly don't want any of the
students to be "left out". Thank You. If you have questions, feel free to
call Debbie Karels @ 878-8534 or email at
