PRINCIPAL¡¦S PAWS
Wow! A week without a hurricane. (OOPS - I SPOKE TOO SOON.) Let's
celebrate. Monday, September 27th is National Family Day. The theme for
our state is "Strengthening Florida's Families, One Meal at a Time." The
purpose of this celebration is part of a national effort promoting parental
engagement as a simple, effective way to reduce substance abuse by children
and teens and raise healthier children. .Research consistently finds that
the more often children eat dinner with their families, the less likely
they are to smoke, drink or use illegal drugs. Data also shows that teens
who often eat dinner with their families are less stressed and bored ¡V two
risk factors associated with substance abuse. Let's plan to eat dinner with
our family on Monday, in an effort to reconnect with our loved ones and to
make a positive impact for their future! For more information, you may
wish to contact the Family Day website at www.floridafamilyday.com.

MRS. MCCASKILL¡¦S CORNER
This is a reminder that counseling groups have started this week. If you
would like your child to participate in a counseling group, (grief, anger,
friendships/bullying) please inform your child¡¦s teacher or contact Ms.
Balance in the guidance department. The groups are held one day a week
from 1:00pm-1:30pm for 4-6 weeks. Feel free to take advantage of this
service as an effort to provide effective coping skills for your child.

PARKING REMINDER
For those of you coming in for conferences, remember to park in spaces 23-
36 in the front of the school. The other parking spaces have been assigned
to teachers and staff.

NUTRITION TIP OF THE WEEK
Start the day with a healthy breakfast. The key to a healthy breakfast is
including plenty of nutrients that your body can use to jumpstart the day.
A breakfast with protein, carbohydrates and rich fiber can keep you
energetic until lunch. A good example is peanut butter on whole wheat
toast, whole grain cereal with low-fat yogurt or milk, mixed nuts and dried
fruit.

FAMILY PHOTO NIGHT
On Tuesday, October 12 Leonards will be taking family photographs by
appointment. If you would like to schedule a time, please call the office
at 878-8534. More information will be sent home soon.

COOKIE DOUGH SALES BEGIN!
Today with the sellers name written in the memo section we are sending home
the Red Apple and Morley Candy Makers fundraiser featuring Otis Spunkmeyer
cookie dough. Order forms and money is due on Thursday, October, 14,
2004. Checks should be made payable to Chaires Elementary Panther PTO.
Sales tax has already been included in the price of the items. Merchandise
will arrive the week of November, 8, 2004. Thank you for supporting our
Panther PTO.

FIELD DAY
Field Day will be held on October 22nd. Parents, we need you to send in a
white t-shirt for your child if possible, to be tie-dyed. The class will
decide what color to dye their shirts. Then a parent(s) will tie-dye the
shirts for the class. PTO will reimburse the parent who purchases the dye
as long as they save the receipt. (Please, RIT dye only. No special/fancy
kits.) It is important that every child has a shirt, so if anyone would
like to donate an extra white t-shirt, that would be greatly appreciated.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with a ƒÀ indicate that we will be seeking parent
volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact the
front office by calling 878-8534.
