PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
It's been another active and adventurous week at Chaires Elementary
School! Our first and second graders put on a fabulous Black History
Program for the whole school on Wednesday. What a treat! Although we were
afraid we would get rained out, we had nice enough weather to have our Walk-
a-thon on Thursday. Special thanks to everyone who helped the children to
raise funds and enjoy participating in this school-wide fitness event.
Finally, we held an FCAT Pep Talk for our third, fourth, and fifth graders
with Guest Speaker, Mr. Vincent Edwards. He encouraged all of the students
to RELAX and feel CONFIDENT in their abilities to do a great job on their
tests next week!

GET TO SCHOOL ON TIME!
To the parents of third, fourth, and fifth grade parents, especially:
Please be sure that your child arrives at school on time for the next two
weeks. While it's important that they arrive on time each and every day,
it is of the utmost importance for students to arrive on time during our
testing. Children who arrive late will not be admitted to class until the
testing is over and the children will have to take the test in a "retake"
setting instead of their regular classroom.

News From Art
Spring is approaching fast and the Art room is gearing up for Youth Art
Month. Each March every school in Leon County displays student art work at
the downtown Leroy Collins Public Library. There will be a reception on
Thursday March 9th from 5:30 to 7:00. Come and celebrate with our young
artists

Project Boards for Sale
The PTO is selling Project Boards this year for $5.00. We also have
project board headers for sale for $2.00. The header is used to hold the
board open and you can put the title of your project on it. Stop by the
front office to make your purchase. These boards are used for the Science
Fair as well as other projects.
McCASKILL'S CORNER
Thank you parents for the continued support you have given Chaires
Elementary School. Our students are the best! We have seen improvement in
our students following the school and classroom rules. Keep it up! This
Saturday, February 25, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., will be our last
FCAT Saturday.
Session 1 of the FCAT for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will begin on
Monday, February 27, 2006 at 7:55 a.m. Please make sure your child is on
time, well rested and have had a good breakfast. All students that arrive
late will not be able to go to their classroom until after the test is
over. We are proud of our students and we know they will give it their
best. Have a wonderful weekend!

CLINIC NEWS
In an attempt to decrease the spread of flu and other communicable diseases
in the school setting, Leon County School Health and Nursing Services is
asking all parents to adhere to the following guidelines:
If your child complains of flu-like symptoms, such as body aches,
headache, chronic cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, please keep your
child out of school. If your child does not feel well, he/she is not able
to learn and other children may become sick.
Children must be fever-free and not vomiting for a minimum of 24
hours, and not taking anti-fever medication such as Tylenol or Advil.
Do not send your child to school with medication. Parents must
bring any medication to school and complete a Medication Permission Form.
This includes medicines such as cough drops and throat lozenges.
Please update the emergency phone numbers for your child if your
have moved, changed or added new numbers. It is very important to be able
to contact a responsible adult in the event of an illness or accident at
school.
Thank you for your cooperation. With your help, we can keep our
children healthy and able to learn.
