PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Our word for the week, next week, will be "Thankfulness." What wonderful
timing! This year, I am thankful for my husband, our good health, and the
support of many good friends and family members. I am especially thankful
for all of the wonderful family members at Chaires! Faculty, staff,
parents, grandparents, and students truly operate as a family at our
school, and for that, I am thankful. I would like to take this opportunity
to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

MRS. OLK CORNER
Eighteen boys and girls participated in the “Jump Rope For Heart” on
Tuesday morning. They raised over $700 for research on heart disease. Thank
you to all of our participants and Coach Norton Hawkins who sponsored the
event. Jimmy Duval who raised over $200, was our top fundraiser.
Congratulations, Jimmy!

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY
This is just a reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL for students next
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (11/26-11/28) for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

PTO FUNDRAISER DISTRIBUTION DATES
Parents should have received a flyer listing the distribution dates for
both fundraisers. The Cherrydale Farms fundraiser (wrapping paper, candy,
etc.) has two pickup dates, Friday, November 21st from 7:30am-6:30pm in the
cafeteria and Tuesday, November 25th from 2:00pm-6:30pm in the cafeteria.
The Cookie Dough fundraiser has only one pickup date which is Tuesday,
November 25th from 2:00pm-6:30pm in the cafeteria. There is no storage
facility for the frozen cookie dough. If you absolutely cannot pick up your
order on Tuesday the 25th, you must call in advance to discuss arrangements
for pickup; otherwise your order will be forfeited. Please call Nina Stone
at 942-0134 if needed.

YEARBOOK COVER
It’s that time again! We are looking for some young artists who may be
interested in designing this year’s 2003-2004 yearbook cover. If your
design is chosen, you will receive a free yearbook. Please follow these
rules carefully:
-Draw a design on white 8 ½ x 11 paper
-Black and White only (pencil or ink)
-“Chaires Elementary School” and “2003-2004” must be included in the design
Hand in your design to Mrs. Fordham in Guidance by December 3, 2003. GOOD
LUCK!

FOOD DRIVE
Our student council is sponsoring a food drive for the month of November.
So far, we have been collecting the following:
-Dry food goods (grits, oatmeal, cereal)
-Canned goods (vegetables, canned meat)
-Little knick knacks and personal items (gum, puzzles, books, cards, lotion)
Next week, (Mon. & Tues.) we are encouraging the students and/or parents to
write an encouraging letter, or to make a card for a less fortunate person
or someone who may live in a shelter. Continue to send in items listed in
the section above if you would like also. On Tuesday morning, Nov. 25th,
all items will be presented to a Homeless Shelter or Women’s Shelter.

THANK YOU PARENTS!
The 4th and 5th grade teachers would like to thank the parents who helped
them move back into their permanent classrooms in the 600 building. This
building has been under renovation of the HVAC system. The parents we would
like to recognize are: Janet Burns, Julie Williams, Cathy Sims, Tammy
Simmons, Patti Brigance, Charles Tacot, Kathy Punausuia, Beth Anderson &
her mom, Tim Hutchison and Michelle Vought. Your help was greatly
appreciated.

HOLIDAY STORE
The Holiday Store will be open for students to preview on Friday, December
5th. On this day, teachers will bring their students to preview the items
that will be available for purchase the following week (12-8 through 12-
12). This is a great opportunity for students to purchase gifts for their
siblings, parents, grandparents, etc. Gifts prices vary from $.50 to $10.00.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with an X indicate that we will be seeking
parent volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact
the front office by calling 878-8534.
