PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
I am so proud of all of the fourth graders for their hard work on their
FCAT Writing tests this week. I know that students in grades 1, 2, 3, and
5 worked hard on their Writes Upon Request testing, as well. We’ve got a
little bit of “down time” before our next round of testing, so let’s enjoy
the activities we have planned! Next Tuesday, we will have our second
Black History assembly. Last week, thanks to the PTO, we enjoyed a
wonderful program featuring African hand drumming. Next week, our school
program will feature our Fifth Grade Chorus. We’ll have two morning
performances (8:15, 9:30) and one evening performance (6:00). Then, on
Wednesday, students can bring in their money and have their spring
individual photos made. This year’s background is an outdoor lake scene
with trees, a lake, and a split-rail fence. Next Friday we will be
honoring all of you who work extra hard by volunteering your time to make
Chaires such a great place to learn and work! Our faculty, staff and
administration will be sponsoring a breakfast for volunteers on Friday
morning from 7:15-7:45 in the Media Center. We always have a HUGE
breakfast to show our gratitude. Immediately following the breakfast, we
will kick off our “Walk for Your Heart Walk a Thon.” Students are
currently getting donors that will pledge for their laps. Next Friday,
they will walk as many quarter mile laps as they can during their 45 minute
special area time. We could use your help, as a volunteer, if you can plan
to join us! Finally, something I know the children and teachers are
looking forward to! Monday, February 21st is a day off! No school for
students and teachers. (The office will be open, however.)

MRS. MCCASKILL’S CORNER
We would like to thank Mr. Fred Kinch, manager of the Vineyard Publix.
Publix is such a fine business partner at Chaires Elementary School! Did
you know that every month Publix donates two platters of cupcakes to reward
the classes with the fewest unexcused tardies? What a treat! Also, Publix
has generously donated doughnuts and juice for each of our FCAT Saturday
sessions! They even have a special gallery to display the Chaires
artwork! Thank you Mr. Kinch and Publix for your kindness, generosity, and
ongoing support! Parents, if you haven’t been by the Vineyard Publix
lately, please be sure to stop by and support our fabulous partner.
