PTO Meeting 10/18/05

Attendees sign-in circulated

Minutes from 9/20/05 PTO meeting were approved

President’s Report
• Popcorn party for students with 6+ sales (for the gift wrap
fundraiser) is scheduled for November 3rd. It will take place at the
basketball court during each classes reading block time. The
representative from the fund raiser company will join the students for
popcorn and juice.
• 16 students qualified for the limo ride – Christi and Donna are
making the arrangements for the limo.
• Cookie dough orders have been tallied and sent off. When the order
is received back a date will be set for pick up. Teachers are asked to
send the notices home the day they are received rather than waiting to send
them home on Friday.
• Molly has made arrangements to take special orders for long sleeve
t-shirts and zip-up hooded jackets. Pre-orders are due no later than
November 1st.
• We have used approximately 13,000 to 15,000 points from soup
labels. We have ordered the long-armed staplers and also a paper cutter,
which has already been received. The staff in the front office was very
grateful!

Special Presentation
Mike Barrett presented a proposal for swings for the PreK playground. The
PreK teachers have requested to replace the existing swings with half-
bucket swings (4). He has compared prices and had a bid from Landscape
Corp. for approximately $600 for 4 swings. Those in attendance reviewed
the bid, along with other information regarding the swings and unanimously
voted to approve the purchase.

Also, Mike asked about mulch to fill in the holes under the existing
swings. Christi advised that there was a general maintenance request
for “Kid’s Carpet” already underway. Kim advised that there were also drop-
offs at the slides on the K-2 playgrounds. Christi will contact the
playground inspector and have them come and inspect the playgrounds.

• Cookie dough - $21,000 total (40% is profit)

far, we have a check for her for $50. The sign has bookings through
December.
• Ms. Munn (Art) has been given a check for the agreed amount of
$1700.
• A check for $1750 has been given to Ms. Kilpatrick (music)
• The class with the most attendance at the end of each semester wins
a pizza party and free skate passes for the whole class.

Spring Festival
Teachers that were present were asked when they would like to choose their
theme baskets for the silent auction and booths at the Spring Festival. It
was agreed that they would choose in January. Teachers will have first
choice of the booth that they had last year. Booths that were used by
teachers that are no longer at Chaires will be added to the initial
selection.

Fall Field Day and A+ School Celebration
• Mitzi spoke with another school’s PTO and found that they have
chosen themes for their field days. Therefore, she has chosen a theme for
our Field Day this year. Our theme this year will be used from the
book “Where the Wild Things Are”.
• We need 2 volunteers for each station for K-2. Coach Lang has
stated that she will need 6-8 for grades 3-5.
• We are checking on having someone from Publix to dress as the
Publix Dinosaur and pass out the ice cream (since Publix is furnishing the
ice cream).
• Mitzi will make a general map for where (station) each class should
be and when and where they should go next. This should help with the flow.
• We will have a “Monster March” to warm up before starting the
activities.
• We will be setting up on Wednesday before field day at 5:00 to get
things together for set-up. We will be in the Guidance hallway at 7:00 on
the morning of Field Day to set up each station.
• Leigh Anne & Scott Chapman will be manning one of the hydration
stations. Rod Burk has already made sure that the Gatorade has been
delivered.
• Teachers need to make sure that ALL students have turned in a plain
white t-shirt to be tie-dyed.
• The idea was addressed to have a “Most Spirited Teacher or
Volunteer” award for the teacher or volunteer with the most spirited outfit
and who has the most spirit. A final decision was not made on this.

Holiday Shop
The Holiday Shop will be the week of December 5th through 9th, in the
Guidance hallway. Ms. Munn will decorate the area for the shop.

Just a Note…
The pizza supper before the 3rd grade musical performance on 10/25 will be
handled by the 3rd grade parents. It is not a PTO sponsored event.

Volunteer Report
• The Book Fair is next week and the books are already here to be set
up. Volunteers are needed to set up and run the store.
• Christi will send out a request on the List Server and in the
newsletter requesting volunteers for the Book Fair and for Field Day.

Mentor Coordinator
Tracy had training for mentors on Wednesday and she advised that she now
has mentors signed up and 5 children will be mentored starting this week.
Next PTO meeting is scheduled for November 8th at Skate Night.
