PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Did you get those progress alerts on Wednesday? If so, please remind your
child to continue to work very hard until the very last day of school! We
are also in the process of preparing for our incoming kindergarten
students. We will be holding kindergarten orientation and registration on
Tuesday, May 3rd starting at 8:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. If you have a
friend or neighbor with a five year old who is in the Chaires school zone,
please be sure to have them attend! We will be giving out great
information and taking a tour of the kindergarten classes (during
instructional time) so that the parents and children will get an idea of
our curriculum and expectations of kindergarten children. As always, if
you have any questions, ideas or concerns, please feel free to call me at
any time.

MRS. MCCASKILL’S CORNER
Various test results will be arriving at the district throughout the month
of May. At this time, we are planning to send home individual test score
reports with the final report card on the last day of school. If you would
like to know your child’s scores prior to that time, you may contact your
child's teacher, Mrs. McCaskill or Mrs. Moss. (We may share the scores
with you, but may not send home the report until the last day of school.)
At this time we DO have the following scores:

3rd grade criterion referenced test scores (Level scores) – were sent home
on April 26th
4th grade writing scores – will be sent home on May 2nd

At this time we DO NOT have the following scores:
3rd – 5th grade Norm Reference Test scores (reported in percentiles)
4th & 5th grade criterion referenced test scores (Level scores)
    1st & 2nd grade SAT/9 scores
Please keep in mind that in addition to student performance on standardized
tests, classroom work and attainment of the grade level benchmarks is also
a consideration when determining if students have met promotion criteria.

APPRECIATION WEEK-MAY 2-6
The week of May 2-6 will be our teacher and staff appreciation week.
Student Council will be sending home flyers with some suggestions of how
everyone can let their teacher know how much they are appreciated. Adrienne
Funderburke will be providing lunch on Wednesday for all teachers and
staff. The Funderburkes have had children at Chaires for 20 years and
their youngest child, Connor, will be moving on to Swift Creek Middle
School in the fall. If you are able to help Mrs. Funderburke serve lunch on
Wednesday, please contact her at [log in to unmask] or 933-4779.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION
Kindergarten Orientation for the upcoming school year (05/06) will be on
Tuesday, May 3rd at 8:00am. Orientation will begin in the cafeteria
followed by a guided walk through in the Kindergarten classrooms. We will
have registration packets available along with some other documentation you
can take with you. If you know someone who has a Kindergarten student
starting in the fall, please let them know about this upcoming event.

SCIENCE EXPO
Congratulations to the following students who will be going to the
Challenger Learning Center to present their science projects. They are:
Veronica France, C.J. Danser, Robert Looper, J.C. Wenhold, Erica Sims,
Chelsea Austin, Michael Swords, Patrick Titus, Amber Williams, Lauren
Higdon, Marina Von Stein, and Jessica Morgan. Good Luck!

A FAMILY ART EVENT
The 5th grade boys have been studying Christopher Stills. Christopher
Stills, a Florida artist, was commissioned to paint the large murals in the
State of Florida House of Representatives chambers. There are twelve
murals each depicting a different part of Florida's history. All of the
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are invited to view these murals in
person. We are planning a family after school trip to the State Capitol
Building to view the murals on Thursday, May 12th, at 3:30pm. We will meet
in front of the Dolphin Fountains behind the State Capitol building. The
tour limits us to 60 people, so it will be first come first serve. Hope to
see you there.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with an X indicate that we will be seeking
parent volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please contact
the front office by calling 878-8534.
