PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
Our fourth grade holiday program and fifth grade chorus did a fabulous job
this week! Way to go kids! Way to go Mrs. Kilpatrick! Special thanks to
the PTO parents who continue to do great things! Without our hard working
parents, our holiday program, dinner and store wouldn't have been such a
great success!
I'd like to wish each of you a very safe and happy holiday season! We'll
see everyone back bright and early on Tuesday, January 3, 2006!

WINTER HOLIDAYS
The school will be closed from December 17 through January 1st. There is a
teacher planning day on Monday, January 2nd and the students will return on
Tuesday, January 3rd.

Drop Everything And Read
Some Parents know this as DEAR time. During DEAR time, the television set
goes off. The telephone goes unanswered. And everyone sits down for some
uninterrupted reading time. Here are some suggestions for making DEAR time
a success at your house:
• Make sure everyone has something to read. You might want to plan a
trip to the library before DEAR Day.
• Schedule DEAR in advance. If you have a family calendar, write
DEAR time in it. This lets your child see that reading time is just as
important as basketball practice.
• Start small. Some families schedule a half-hour of DEAR time once a
week. When everyone has the reading habit, DEAR time is more frequent.
• Join in. DEAR can be a success only if everyone takes part. So
pop a big bowl of popcorn, grab that best-seller you've been dying to read,
and settle down for a few minutes of quiet reading yourself.

McCASKILL'S CORNER
Have a wonderful Holiday vacation. We look forward to seeing you and your
children next year. During the break, continue to encourage your children
to always follow the school and classroom rules, to arrive to school on
time, focus on their abilities rather than their limitations and always be
prepared to learn sometime new and exciting. “Feeling good about yourself
begins with serving others.” Have a Fantastic Holiday break!

GUIDANCE NEWS
As we celebrate this special time of the year, let us not forget the "we"
or "us". It is so very important that we take time to share with each
other, not just gifts but quality time. Family and friends are so very
precious. They are not to be taken for granted. Cooking, playing games,
walking, talking are just some of the many ways to get to learn more about
each other. The years past so quickly and the children are gone. We wonder,
what happened?
Read with and to each other. The public libraries have much to offer. Do
you and your family know your neighbors? If not, now's the time. If you do,
do something with them. Visit the grand parents or an elderly person. Find
out how you can be of help, not just now but throughout the year. Listen to
their stories. History, especially when heard from the person who lived it
is so interesting.
Enjoy your time together. It is "magical". Colors, lights, bells, music and
all the trimmings help to make the season wonderful. If each of us would
smile, say hello and be kind to each other, what a wonderful world it would
be. Whether it is Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukah or another observance,
enjoy. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
